Obrador travelled to El Chapo territory of Badiraguato, Sinaloa, where he met
with the mother of el Chapo, Maria Consuelo Loera as she was a passenger of a
vehicle. Loera’s vehicle was parked on a
unpaved mountain road outside Badiragiato. The president cheerfully approached the
vehicle and extended his hand for an enthusiastic handshake.
“AMLO” has been slow on the
draw of measures to avoid the spread of the coronavirus, of which handshakes
are a big no-no. Last week he was in Oaxaca
where on video he encouraged people to dine out.
Lopez Obrador told Loera, who
has a big smile, that she needn’t exit
the vehicle, they shook hands, had a
brief exchange, in which he said that he
had “received her letter.”
There is no indication of what
letter they are speaking of.
In February of last year, she wrote a letter to the president asking for his assistance in receiving a humanitarian visa for her and daughters so they may visit Chapo. She says she was granted the visa, but it appears she has not visited her son.

Gonzalez Meza.
Loera is in her 90s, an age
that is most vulnerable to dying of the virus.
The day was also the birthday
of Ovidio Guzman, son of El Chapo, who AMLO ordered release after his capture
in the fall of 2019.
Last thing you want is shaking hands, the old lady of 90 what the hell she doing outside. Letters to Lopez Obrador will not free Chapo.
