Triple Play: World Trade Bridge CBP Officers Seizes Narcotics Worth Over $1.9 Million

LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the World Trade Bridge seized methamphetamine and marijuana in three separate unrelated enforcement actions.

“In an effort to secure our Nation’s borders, as these narcotics seizures clearly illustrate, CBP has implemented enforcement strategies that have furthered the disruption of dangerous drugs entering the country,” said Acting Port Director Andrew Douglas, Laredo Port of Entry.

The first enforcement action occurred on Tuesday, August 4th at the World Trade Bridge when CBP officers assigned to the cargo facility encountered an express consignment vehicle arriving from Mexico.  The 2010 Kenworth tractor and shipment were referred for a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, resulting in the discovery of one package containing 30.99 pounds of alleged methamphetamine discovered within an express consignment shipment. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $619,933.

The second seizure occurred on Wednesday, August 5th when CBP officers intercepted a tractor manifesting computer parts for recycling. The 2008 Freightliner tractor and shipment were referred for a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, resulting in the discovery of 137 packages containing 1,562.63 pounds of alleged marijuana discovered within the trailer. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $312,524.

The third narcotics interception happened on Thursday, August 6th when officers came across another express consignment vehicle arriving from Mexico.  The 2013 Kenworth tractor and shipment were referred for a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, resulting in the discovery of packages containing 50.88 pounds of alleged methamphetamine discovered within two separate express consignment shipments. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $1,017,643.

The narcotics combined have an estimated street value of $1,950,100.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and one trailer.  The cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
