"Not Guilty" declares Genaro García Luna of drug trafficking in the US

 Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat  Reforma

New York, United States (October 07, 2020)

- Former Mexican Secretary of Public Safety, Genaro García Luna, pleaded not guilty to the drug trafficking charges against him during a hearing in NY district U.S. Federal Court.

García Luna rejected the three accusations of conspiracy to traffic cocaine, for alleged protection of the Sinaloa Cartel and one of false statements.

He also pleaded not guilty to the accusation of continuous criminal enterprise, the most serious, since it contemplates a penalty of at least 20 years in prison.

Judge Brian Cogan ( from El Chapo Trial) read the charges from a second indictment against the former Felipe Calderón official.

Cogan indicated that García Luna is accused of participating in a conspiracy and working with other people to transport and distribute more than 53 thousand kilograms of cocaine in the United States between 2001 and 2017.

This new accusation is added to the four previously charged crimes of drug trafficking and false declaration.

The judge indicated that, as part of the new formal accusation, it is intended to seize money and property from García Luna that he obtained for having distributed the narcotic in the United States.

The hearing of the former government official of Felipe Calderón started with stumbling blocks and was suspended for several minutes, after the Mexican press did not respond to Judge Cogan's calls for silence.

The US Justice had provided a telephone line so that anyone could connect and listen to the hearing against the former Mexican official, who is accused of receiving bribes from the Sinaloa Cartel to provide him with protection.

Cogan asked Mexican journalists, who spoke in Spanish, to silence their microphones, as they were interfering with the audience.

A new hearing was held for December 7, at 10:30 a.m. EDT.

The feds expected a plea deal and have entered negotiations since January 2020

    2. Unless he pleas guilty and accepts million dollar fines. In that case he'll get a slap on the wrist and be back out on the streets

    3. There are more, cheaper and stronger drugs than ever on US streets, so it seems as if the US is fucking up BIG time!

  2. A GOVERNMENT official in court for corruption but the sad thing IS, there are THOUSANDS in Mexico AND the U.S that WON'T even get charged..
The RRALITY is he WILL get a SLAP in the wrist..
HE basicly did WHAT the DEA does BUT there can ONLY be ONE.. THAT'S the reason THE MEXICAN version of it is no longer active SINCE like 2 years... WHAT a JOKE

    1. The fact he is only being charged for conspiracy, despite it being 3 times (lol), should tell you enough...

    2. a conspiracy charge is just as bad as getting charged for the actual crime and all he can get charged is with conspiracy as he didnt traffic or handle any drugs himself but is part of the conspiracy for looking the other way while taking bribes

    3. Bobby Shmurda pleaded guilty to conspiracy and he got 7 years, if he was convicted at trial then he would have been given 25 to Life. So yea conspiracy charges are bad.

That's what they said of Chapo "he knows too much" and look at him now, he wasn't offered a deal. If Luna is offered a deal ok but of not it doesn't matter what he knows.

  5. The US has los pelos de la burra in this case, pleading "not guilty" is useless and could do more harm to Genarco, he is not a presidential cabinet member in Mexico anymó...
--Son in Law Colosio jr could spring genarco out of prison WHEN HE BECOMES PRESIDENTE HIMSELF.

    1. THE First court appearance IS usually LIKE that, he declares HIMSELF innocent UNTIL proven guilty..
EVERY body is untitled to that amendment UNTIL they bring the FACTS

    2. pleading not guilty is standard procedure in american courtrooms. no defendant no matter how guilty or how much evidence there is against him pleads guilty in their first court hearings. its always not guilty when being arraigned a guilty plea is given only after a deal has been worked out with the DA or its a minor case and your attorney advices to not fight it

  6. Can’t believe this guy “Conrado” is taking the “I’m innocent” route. USA is like a woman, if they asked you what did you do? They’re asking you because they already know what you did. No offense Chivis, Yaqui, Canadiana.

    4. I meant initially, when people are in their arraignment, everybody pleads not guilty. Even in federal cases. But this has been long after the arraignment, they're supposed to be withing 30 days. This case is definitely interesting.

  8. What about Calderon himself?
Shouldn't he go to trial also?
He won't because the U.S. government invited him to be a proffesor at Harvard University hence making him look innocent of any wrong doing
All part of the U.S. plot to allow one cartel to take over Mexico.

    2. 9:31 why did the U.S. govenrment allow Calderon rather give him a Visa to teach at Harvard then if they are not complicit in who enters the country and why?
Once again why is Calderon not a suspect of any wrongdoing either if he was above this Luna character?

And the american justice system which is not perfect but you cant bullshit your way thru it.And just like chapo if he wld of pleaded guilty may be he wld go back to mexico in his older years like many others Oziel Cardenas Guillen wld be and example. He'll be home by what 2027 2028.

    1. you can definitely bullshit and get out of receiving true justice here in america. granted it might not be as much common practice as it is in mexico but it happens nonetheless. chapo couldnt beat it because he was to high profile and too much pressure from gov to convict him due to him embarrasing them over and over. look at Vicente Zambada who is getting less than 10 years at a minimum security facility and at the Flores brothers who also got a lil bit of time and get to keep millions in profits.

    2. Depends on high the government wants go up the food chain. Chapo was at or near the top. A plea bargain from the state is a courtesy to the accused, and a deal need not be made on any case at all for that matter. Now some of you believe that Chapo had his masters, but perhaps the government chooses not to reveal this, in any event, neither can you.

  19. No matter what this guy has a solid case in his favor.
Basically thia guy was only being paid protection money by the Sinaloa cartel to take out their enemies. A very decent amount as well.
Why the hell would this protection service come with a drug deal clause???
The U.S. gov is only uaing this guy as a fall guy so that Calderon won't be targeted. They also want to silence those in the know about the U.S. plot to allow Sinaloa cartel to run all of Mexico.

    1. 3:11 the US gov that "allowed" shit is not in power no mó.
In any case what yo uh need is to find out the operation name, its designer, the lobbyists that pushed for it, and the main beneficiaries of that Contract on Mexico, you will be surprised but won't die of it...

      Delete
    2. 9:41 the main "contractors" are think tanks that run the U.S. intelligence agencies and are practically untraceable less you get accused of interfering with their actions or government espionage. They do not really have to make money themselves either in case you don't know this. What they want is one individual cartel to run Mexico so in case this cartel "runs amuck" for lack of a better term their sole leader/s will be easier to find therefore handle.
Find this out yourself in those government and or political websites you vistit and see the truth.
Find out who invited former Mexican President Calderon to teach at Harvard also while you're at it and start your search from there.
You might be surpriaed. I am not.
