"Morogris" for Borderland Beat
The shootout took place in the municipality of Camargo, where 19 people (sixteen of them Central American migrants), were killed last January. |
On early Saturday morning, a clash between suspected members of the Gulf Cartel (CDG) and the Northeast Cartel (CDN) reportedly left up to 10 dead and seven vehicles destroyed in Comales, a rural community in Camargo, Tamaulipas.
The first news of the shootout were reported on social media, where users living nearby said that there was a large gunfight taking place on the Comales–Camargo highway. Some residents said that the shootout lasted over 45 minutes. The Mexican Army arrived until the shootout was over.
A source in Tamaulipas consulted by Borderland Beat confirmed that the Army usually tends to let cartel members battle against each before intervening in a shootout.
"The Army lets them 'kill each other' before they intervene. Those are the orders in La Frontera Chica", the source confirmed.
During the shootout, the CDN used monstruos (literally "monsters"), a term used by cartels when referring to armored cartel vehicles. In the images shares on social media, one can observe corpses inside the armored vehicles and on the highway.
Borderland Beat analysis
The rural community of Comales is in La Frontera Chica (also known as La Ribereña), a border region along Tamaulipas.
In the context of the Mexican Drug War, it is a lucrative drug corridor currently under dispute by the CDN and the Metros faction of the CDG. The CDN, based in Nuevo Laredo, is trying to expand east into La Frontera Chica, which has historically been controlled by the CDG.
Comales is a strategic point for local drug cartels because the highway that runs through this community connects heading north to Camargo, which borders Rio Grande City, Texas. Heading south, the highway connects with one that leads to Reynosa and Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
Reports say that the CDN commanders in the area are Ricardo Chapa ('El Ricky') and another individual simply known as 'El Amarillo'. These individuals report to the CDN boss Juan Gerardo Treviño Chavez ('El Huevo'). The CDG commanders in the area are Cesar Morfin Morfin ('El Primito') and his brother Alvaro ('R-8').
As reported by Borderland Beat, El Huevo, El Primito, and R-8 are among the top ten most-wanted cartel figures in Tamaulipas.

Moving pretty fast taking over mexico
ReplyDeleteUSA bulletin has said Cartels control 1/3 of Mexico.
Deletei'm telling you. these towns in la Frontera Chica may not make the list of most dangerous cities in mexico by homicide, but they have a lot of deaths. 10 here, 14 there, 9 over there as well. this is a weekly occurrence although hardly anything ever reaches the press.
ReplyDeleteDeath is happening everywhere in Mexico everyday, mostly homicides. We all know Obrador is lazy when it comes to crime, as long as he receives envelopes filled with money, it's open season for the cartels.
DeleteIt's funny....
The Army waits until the cartels finish shooting each other.
The Mexican Navy before they do a drug bust..they announce on p.a. wait 30 minutes, no one is arrested, only to get the drugs.
Definitely more dangerous than any of the top 10 most dangerous cities from that one post,
DeleteLa frontera chica is fucking mad max dangerous.
DeleteRumors that crips and bloods takes over
ReplyDeleteLol.
DeleteFacts that you're a clown and nobody has ever taken you serious
DeleteAs long as they keep killing each others that's really cool :)
ReplyDeleteSo is this why the cdg were stilling cars last week?
ReplyDeleteStolen cars are used to perpetrate homicides, then set ablaze
DeleteFrank

ReplyDeleteRight now??? It's always like this
DeleteBB should post a blog with updated info/ recent ongoing and current situation in la frontera chica. This is something that at the end of the day is HUGE in the narco world and will affect the average citizen
ReplyDeleteMost definitely agree with you!!! Not much comes out of there about the clashes, killings, etc. An updated article would be a good thing and appreciated.
