A man was killed while trying to prevent the kidnapping of a woman who was presumably his wife. The incident occurred in a Walmart parking lot in Ciudad Madero, a municipality in the Tampico metropolitan area in southern Tamaulipas.
A video circulating on social media shows how the abductors try to get the woman into a truck. She resists and screams, and then her husband begins to struggle against the assailants. One of the gunmen then points a machine gun at him and shoots him in the head and in the abdomen. The man falls to the ground in semi-fetal position.
Initially, reports stated that the incident was due to a robbery, but information released by local media indicated that the murdered man had a criminal record and was engaged in the sale of vehicles. It is presumed that the events are related to a settling of accounts between criminal gangs that operate in Tampico.
After the events, the spokesman for the Tamaulipas Public Security Secretariat, Luis Alberto Rodríguez, reported that an investigation was launched and that any progress will be announced shortly.
Borderland Beat analysis
Unlike the other cities in Tamaulipas, Tampico remains relatively obscure in its cartel information. A source consulted by Borderland Beat confirmed that most of the Tampico metropolitan area has been under the control of the Gulf Cartel (Cartel del Golfo, CDG) for several years.
The faction based there is headed by Hector Crescencio de Leon Fonseca, alias R-3, El Teto, and/or El Chencho, who was quietly released from prison in 2016. He used to work closely with Silvestre Haro Rodríguez, alias R-1 and/or El Chive, and his brother Marco Antonio Haro Rodriguez, alias R-2 and/or Toñin. The Tampico faction reportedly has an alliance with the one in Matamoros.
The Tampico metropolitan area includes the cities of Tampico, Ciudad Madero, Altamira, and parts of northern Veracruz. Much of its economic activity comes from the Port of Altamira, which offers convenient land and rail connections that link it directly to the northern and central parts of Mexico. This makes Tampico a lucrative plaza to control.
In addition, there is a large oil pipeline that starts in Ciudad Madero and connects with Cadereyta, Nuevo Leon. This 488-kilometer (300 miles), 10-inch pipeline moves oil between Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas. Cartels have been illegally extracting oil in this area for many years.

DeleteTampico is the hardest plaza to understand in Tamaulipas. Thanks MX. i remember that area of Los Fresitas and all those factions, it got very confusing and thats when I stopped following the CDG.
