The Month of March Had the Most Violence for 2021

Last March became the most violent month and with the highest number of victims of intentional homicides. So far this year there is a total of 2,444 victims and an average of 78.8 homicides per day.

This according to data from the report of murders prepared by the federal security cabinet and that in turn everyday delivers to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the National Palace. It showed that the most recent report exceeded the month of January 2021, which remained the month with the highest number of murders in 2021.

Accumulating 2379 victims of intentional homicide, this being displaced from second position. The month of March also recorded the highest death toll in one day. On Sunday March 7 with 103 homicides. Of which 14 occurred in Guanajuato, the most violent entity in absolute numbers since 2018. It was the second time this year that 100 intentional deaths were exceeded in one day.

It should be remembered that on February 27 there were 101 murders, this being the first time that 100 homicide victims were exceeded in 2021. The most violent states in March were: Guanajuato, Baja California, State of Mexico, Michoacán, Jalisco. While on March 31 there were 80 violent deaths of which 13 occurred in Guanajuato and 7 in Michoacán.

Among the most violent events that stood out in March is the murder of 13 police officers in Coatepec Harinas in the State of Mexico. After being ambushed by members of La Familia Michoacána.

As well as the multiple clashes between organized crime groups in the states of Chihuahua, Tamaulipas, Sonora, Durango, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Nayarit, and Michoacán.
