California Teenager Goes Missing in Jalisco While Visiting Family

"Anonymous" for Borderland Beat

José Manuel Reyes Contreras, a US citizen, went missing in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco.

A Northern California family is desperately searching for a teen who disappeared after traveling to Mexico to visit a relative. Jose Manuel Reyes- Contreras, 19, arrived in Lagos de Moreno in Jalisco in early April.

His motivations for the trip are unclear but appear to involve family. A California outlet said that he came in town to visit his sister, while a report from a Mexico reported that Reyes came to visit his ailing grandmother who passed away last week.

Reyes went out at night on Sunday and never returned. Reyes' sister Norma stated that they were supposed to hang out that day.

Reyes was scheduled to fly back to Hayward last Thursday at the Guadalajara Airport, but was reported missing days before with a friend, Jesus “Jessy” Ramos Corona, 36. The two went to get tacos late on May 2, but family members have not heard from either person since.

"I called him and asked him, what time are you going to arrive, I am waiting for you and it is late. He told me that he was on his way, that he was buying something to eat," Reyes’ sister said.

Manuel's sister Norma had messaged him on WhatsApp where he said he was eating tacos at a restaurant in Orozco y Jimenez boulevard.

"When at 4:00 a.m. I realized that he still had not arrived and I sent him a message and the same to Jessy and see that they do not enter, then he dialed them and the phones were turned off", Norma told a media outlet.

"Worried early, I looked for family and friends and nobody knew anything."

Reyes was reported as last wearing gray pants, a blue and gray sweatshirt, gray sneakers and a red cap. The outlet also reported Ramos Corona as last wearing jeans, a pink Aeropostale shirt and blue Nike sneakers.

Reyes' mother, who lives in the Northern California town of Hayward, said that the last time they spoke, the young man told her that he would return soon.

"‘I'm leaving soon, he said, don't worry, he told me, I will arrive on Thursday.’ That's why I don't want to enter his room at all, other than pray, but I don't want to see his clothes or anything like that, because it reminds me of when he used to go out," said the visibly affected mother.

Residents of Lagos de Moreno say that many people disappear in the region and the majority are young people between 13 and 22 years old. Genaro de la Torre, president of the Citizens Committee for Public Safety in Tijuana, one of the most violent cities in Mexico, said tourists have to take precautionary measures when visiting the country.

“Don't bring too much cash, try to bring the least. Don’t visit some places at night, try to go to places where there is more movement,” de la Torre said.

Diana Delgadiño, head of Social Communication of Tepatiplán, a city next to Lagos de Moreno, indicated that when a person is reported as missing, all alerts are activated, and "they communicate between police stations to close the circles and comb the area to find the clues."

Since Reyes is a U.S. citizen, American authorities are putting pressure on the police in Lagos de Moreno to find him.

    3. Organ harvesting from random people will not work as there has to be numerous test performed to check viability. It's not like changing car parts which are inorganic.

    5. No it was probably something like this: they had been out on the town and a halcon noticed these two males speaking with American-accented Spanish and reported them to the halcon boss. Halcon boss passes the message up the chain to the plaza boss. Plaza boss gives the order to kidnap the two males because plaza boss believes they could be law enforcement.

Good theory but law enforcement doesn't involve teens from the USA and they don't typically walk around openly chatting up casually. They haven't done that since the late 90s when on active investigations. If, however, you are correct then it means cartels are in big trouble if they're that paranoid they think a teen is experienced enough to be sent from north of the border to do an investigation.

    9. was the town he was visiting the type of town where it probably isnt the brightest idea to be standing on the corner looking around at 2am? the type of city one might get snatched off the corner for being a perceived rival? idk

not to paint everyone with the same brush, hayward as a city does have its underbelly just like many other places, this means nothing until i read the part where the mom said something about not wanting to look at his clothes or enter his room because it reminded her of when "he used to go out"...idk maybe bad translation but maybe not...

maybe targeted for mistaken identity? for being americano?

maybe gave got into a verbal or starring match with wrong dudes at the taqueria?...som3one who isnt me has experienced this before only to be credibly advised later that evening that dudes rolled back to the spot looking for trouble and that was over minor bullsht, you cant assume the feeling is always gona be mutually seen that way by the other party especially when bravado or respect in front of others is concerned. the wrong joke, shared with or about the wrong person at the wrong time can suprise your all right night with a quick turn down suprise sharp left comprende ahora?

wouldnt be nice if these stories of presumed trajedy in mexico started ending on high notes from now on?

"19 year male goes missing while on vacation in mexico..."

eios mios who what where do you think the worst or certainly the worst must have been related to the cartel de assumption..you know they say if you assume you make an ass out of you and me! ayy cabron!

"update: 19 year on vacation in mexico resurfaces fine after presumed going missing in mexico, says after meeting some fine heinas at the taqueria who loved the american accent, remembering being home early was the responsible thing to do, so naturally he turned off his phone and voluntarily went m.i.a for the weekend, had a great time, cant wait to do it again, and wants to give a quick shout out to..."

isnt that how these stories should end? come on mexico is a great place whats been happening to many but not all places there is a damn shame, what needs to be done to change it? ending the drug war and bringing back tourism and other jobs would be a start huh? come on make it happen you know you we collectively can.

  6. Who ever did this are amateurs and desperate. They typically avoid US citizens due to extra risk they pose but which knows why they picked them. Mistaken identity possibly? Unfortunately I don’t think they’re alive anymore. The window for finding someone alive is usually 2-3 days, the more days that pass the slimmer the chance of finding them alive especially if they didn’t ask for a ransom.

That's all CJNG is. They are trying to fortify Jalisco but they are paranoid and see enemies everywhere. It doesn't help that they have wars going in to he north, south and east of them. No matter what CJNG fans want to believe, GTO is still causing headhaches for them, Marros people control the prisons there and abuse and kill the CJNG guys that go to jail. They got pushed further south in Zacatecas. In Michoacan all CJNG did was lose territory, Templarios hold the most important real estate in Michoacan followed by Viagras, and they can't even take out a local chieftain like El Abuelo. That's why I assume their are so many CJNG trolls online, when things are going bad you, lie on social media. The rich in Jalisco are also getting sick of CJNG. That international drug traffiking network the Cuinis built Mencho destroyed. The main thing CJNG live out of is local sales, extortion and kidnaping.

      Delete
    2. They still pushing marros ppl to the East. CDS without the GN ain’t nothing in Zacatecas that includes Carteles Unidos who hide behind gov forces. Only reason cjng lost territory in Michoacán is cuz they flipped sides. El Abuelo is hiding in a bunker in Tepalcatepec & They using drones with explosives & women & kids as autodefensas

    3. 3:46 is that you secret management? First of all: Guanajuato is a lot calmer! You dont hear about all the killings that were happening a few months ago! Dont tell me marros people killed all of cjng sicarios! Second of all: were does it say cjng got pushed back south? They are waiting to see whose wins the elections! They already fully control half of zacatecas, no need to rush! Third and last: really? They are loosing territory in michoacan? Didnt they just take aguililla and sourrounding areas? I havent hear shot from abuelo lately! He is hiding like a rat that he is, scared shitless! Now that cjng has aguililla they can attack abuelo drom any direction, again they are waiting for the next michoacan governor to see if they can buy him or not! Wether you like it or not mencho always trys to make a deal if the deal doesnt work that when his siccarios step up! Hes a real cartel boss he has the money

      Delete
    4. 7:31 AM

Elections are not going to help CJNG. Why do CJNG keep lying to themselves about this? CJNG don't have the money to bribe anyone important anymore, which is why they the spend all their time doing propaganda. Mencho couldn't keep up the drug network the Cuinis built. A lot of the traffickers in Michoacan were part of that network and left CJNG. CJNG are just like the Zetas after Lazca got killed, a group living of a rep.

      Delete
    5. 7:31 am

Mencho is not a cartel boss, he was always just a boss of gunman. Which is why all the drug traffickers that used to work with the Cuinis dropped him. Mencho is the guy he is because of the Cuinis, Mencho is too dumb to make money. CJNG live out of extorting, local drug sales and kidnapping. That international drug trade the Cuinis built Mencho destroyed.

Instead of being put on a waiting list (which isnt that long for rich people) and taking advantage of first class medicine, I fly to Guatemala where I can get killed on the way to the hospital, have my kid cut open by some 3rd world doctor and have a kidney put in that they just cut out of some random guy on the street.
And dont tell me you get an armed escort when traveling, gated but nice hotel, and doctors flown in, this happens in movies.

When i was in Tonala, you dont go out for Tacos after Night.
In GDL i was out in the evening, got dark pretty quick and left the place, 2 hrs later this boxer what shot at this place.

CDMX pretty the same. Sometimes you see nothing and just keep on going. And the worse your spanish is the better.

They will find his body in a few weeks and maybe they arrest some random guy.

      -Blood type
      -Body size
      -Severity of patient's medical condition
-Distance between the donor's hospital and the patient's hospital
      -The patient's waiting time
-Whether the patient is available (for example, whether the patient can be contacted and has no current infection or other temporary reason that transplant cannot take place)
-Other factors used to match kidneys include a negative lymphocytotoxic crossmatch and the number of HLA antigens in common between the donor and the recipient based on tissue typing
Here just read this to see for urself its more complicated thn people think.

Doctors lawyers politicians are all part of the never ending suffering of the people. To say he got used for that is a long shot but not impossible. In many cases directors of huge hospitals are replaced randomly, as a result lids as young as 2 have been found without eyes and missing all of their internals.

If i was gonna do this i would gather intel from a clinic/hospital near by to see what patients they have that would be a good fit for the procedure thats need to take place, not just pick a random person off the street who might have aids or hiv or some sort of infection. Have all the right tools and machines and everything has to be 100% bacteria free. Even once the process is done its not a 100% chance ur body will accept a new body part. Like i said its very complicated process but it does happen.
