Shootout Leaves 5 Dead Inside Bar in Cuernavaca, Morelos

"Morogris" for Borderland Beat

The bar's name is Casa Bacacho, located on Rio Mayo avenue in Cuernavaca, Morelos.

A shootout inside a bar in Cuernavaca, Morelos, left 5 dead (two women and three men).

According to one version, the attack on the bar occurred at 3AM after some diners had a fight inside the premises. Witnesses say that a person drew his firearm and shot at other diners before fleeing the scene.

However, there is another version circulating in the Mexican press that says the attackers entered the bar and fired indiscriminately at several diners.

Paramedics were called to the scene but confirmed that five people were killed (early reporters mentioned three dead and one injured). So far the identity of the deceased is unknown.

The bar was already cordoned off by the police and elements of the Morelos Prosecutor's Office, who arrived to remove the bodies. Relatives of the victims also went to the site to confirm their identities.

In a separate incident in Cuernavaca, a police officer was found dead in 28 de Marzo neighborhood. Investigators say that the officer was either run over or shot while he was driving a motorcycle. His body was found on the middle of the road, dead at the scene.

Background

Cuernavaca, nicknamed the "City of the Eternal Spring", is about an hour and a half drive from Mexico City. It has a population of nearly 350,000 and is often cited as a popular retreat spot for rich Mexico City residents who want to get away from the metropolis. It has a colonial downtown and several upscale neighborhoods.

In the past, this city attracted several Mexican drug kingpins who wanted to blend in with Cuernavaca's upper class. One of them was Arturo Beltrán Leyva, former leader of the Beltran Leyva Cartel.

In recent years, Cuernavaca and the state of Morelos have seen a surge in narco-related violence. Earlier last year, the bishop of Morelos, Ramon Castro Castro, said that Morelos was "overrun" by cartels.

Crime figures in Morelos shot up in 2019; there was a 35% rise in murders, a 68% increase in kidnappings, and 363% more extortions than in 2018. It is likely that many of these figures are downplayed as many kidnappings and extortions are not reported to authorities.

Since 2019, at least a handful of drug cartels are disputing Cuernavaca and all of Morelos. Among them include the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Los Rojos, remnants of La Familia Michoacana, Los Tlahuicas and Los Mayas.

  4. That small dick clown that calls himself El señoron XL is the one cause ig the most violence here, he doesn’t push weight or has any South American contacts so he just extorts and kidnapps innocents. Back before he came along cjng and the BLO were at peace and los rojos vs familia Michoacán handled their beef in los ranchos most of the time.

    1. People are dying here in the US every day. Mass shootings are occurring at high rate over the past weekend. I believe were in the 40 + range.
Killings are Killings no matter how one puts in perspective. The US has an epidemic not willing to recognize or accept.
Many believe gun rights for the citizens of Mexico will reduce violence. Moreover, bring peace. Will Mexico's casualties drop if gun laws were passed? Rather like that of its neighbor (US).
Studies concluded that fire arms permitted countries have a higher percentage rate of deaths than non-permitted ones.

    2. 4:43 Your 1st paragraph is, how would we say it? Over exaggerated, 40+ mass killings in the weekend in USA. Hate to break your bubble no mass killings were recorded.

    3. Hey 4:43 are you creating fake news. What's up with you bro.

    4. The difference of the daily shooting in the USA and Mexico is the way it happens, not sure how to explain it but I'll try. let's say in 1 day, there are 30 murders in USA and 30 murders in Mexico, these 30 murders within a 24 hour period. In the USA it's usually spread out, 1 dead guy in one city, a few more in another city, and a few more in other cities wether nearby or far out, while in Mexico all those 30 can happen in the same city and sometimes in the same event. Therefore the fact that the murders happen within the same area or same event, it's centralized in one area makes a city in Mexico look more dangerous than a city in the USA.

Now I'm not gonna say USA is always safer than Mexico, USA has mass shootings aswell, and they often happen in places that don't happen in Mexico like in Schools, while in Mexico they often happen in areas where you can find trouble like bars, even tho it also happens in areas that should be safe like restaurants or some tourist areas, the majority happens in places were you can expect some shady things.
Mexico isn't 100% violent and there are cities in the USA more dangerous than some cities in Mexico. But the thing is that in Mexico mass shootings happen more often wether the victims are innocent or not and unfortunately they're not given as much importance as a mass shooting in the USA, there's no full coverage and criminals get away with it.

Mexico is a safe heaven for serial killers, too many killers with multiple victims each all running free, and when caught they never do real time.

    7. 7:26 there is the element of breadcrumbs left over by the US of A financed "war ON drugs", AMLO refused to accept anymore "help" earmarked for that, but 2 presidential periods of 6 years each at 3 billion dollars each is about 36 billion dollars worth of murdering and persecution of "cartels" that created their internecine wars, after the old CIA created the cartels, new CIA bosses want to recover their "business" and install new management for their new gobernments of business associates, exactly what happened in Colombia with alvaro uribe velez, full of Falsos Positivos and former associates of "el varito".
On top of it the billions spent by USAID and their compas to destabilize México as they do other countries, to promote their brand of Vulture Capitalism that takes a lot of murdering and kickbacks to the politicos they select, and to private enterprising businessmen like "el Xoconostle" claudio x gonzalez, recently outed by AMLO for being a bought and paid foreign agent enemy of México like Ricardo Anaya and cabeza de cagadas de vacas, salinas, FECAL, fox, cienpedos, EPN...
--all they left over is this cartel murdering, and public debt over nothing because of foreign "loans" stolen by the puppets of foreign banks from all over.
World bank still tries hard to sell bullshit loans and credits to AMLO or to undermine his administration with lead if he won't take the silver.
