"HEARST" for Borderland Beat

Update: Official death toll was 19 dead (15 innocent civilians) and 4 cartel members.

Today, in less than a 12 hour span, fifteen people are believed to have been killed by armed commandos in Reynosa, Tamaulipas.

The attacks were centered around the Almaguer, Unidad Obrera, Fidel Velázquez and Bienestar neighborhoods of Reynosa.

Initial reports coming from locals on social media point to perpetrators being Cártel del Golfo (CDG), or Gulf Cartel. But these are unconfirmed. The Gulf Cartel faction rumored to be involved is Río Bravo.

There are also differing reports say that these attacks are the result of two rival Gulf Cartel factions warring with each other. This is also unconfirmed.

This brings us to 15 deaths, but the number repeated by most news outlets (not all) is currently 14 so one death may have been misreported.

Local Media Says It Was CDG

Translation: Those responsible for today's massacre that left 15 people dead and multiple wounded in the Almaguer, Lampasitos, Bienestar and Unidad Obrera neighborhoods are the "Commandantes" Paquito 77, Miguelito 56 alias "El Culon" and the aforementioned Casco 1, all members of the Gulf Cartel Rio Bravo faction. Translation: Where is the security that the NarcoGovernor boasts so much about? 6 people dead is the result of chases and shootings between 2 factions of the Gulf Cartel in Almaguer, Fidel Velasquez and Unidad Obrera neighborhoods.

Maybe they would have gotten arrested for something the next day had they not been murdered by those just like them .(but with criminal records) shows how little you know about what goes on in the 3rd world . Sounds about white . stay your ass up in kansas and pretend you know wsup ! White girls am I right ?

  2. Alfredo Cardenas el contador and the matamoros cdg faction is going hard for the reynosa plaza. It took him a minute since he got out and then he killed his own cousin but he most feel now is the time. Knowing that the reynosa cdg is weaker than it was since the killing of el choco. He always thought reynosa shld be commanded by matamoros like it used to be under all the top bosses of the cdg.

  3. Theres a good article with the history of carteles unidos and their war against jalisco in valor tamaulipeco in it is the first mention of el 85 backing carteles unidos. Its long and it wld be a pain to translate but i think some of bb readers might be interested in it.

I think they are referring to this one:
      https://valortamaulipeco.blogspot.com/2021/06/los-carteles-unidos-y-el-abuelo-un.html

Which is a republished Insight Crime article. https://insightcrime.org/mexico-organized-crime-news/carteles-unidos/

Insight Crime uses this El Universal article as its reference for the El 85 stuff. https://www.eluniversal.com.mx/estados/cjng-con-sangre-y-fuego-cartel-jalisco-aumenta-presencia-en-el-pais

But the El Universal article presents little evidence to back up their claims about El 85. I also have found that El Universal has inconsistent accuracy when it comes to Michoacan events. So I might work with another overview article instead and take some more time with it.

Blaming the dead victims by calling them a different CDG faction is just a cheap way to appease public anger for the lack of control the government has over the cartels.

I say it follows the traditional heating plaza process, and I don't think Matamoros wins Reynosa until they are willing to pay and bribe a ridiculous amount of money.
