"Socalj" for Borderland Beat

Self-defense groups or organized crime? Criminal or stigmatized? A series of dilemmas has called into question the grouping of the security body called Pueblos Unidos, which arose from the exhaustion of the residents of four Michoacan municipalities: Arios de Rosales, Salvador Escalante, Nuevo Urecho, and Taretan.
The armed civilians, who took over the main entrances to the regions two weeks ago, could be thwarted and dispossessed of their weapons as the authorities consider it a violation. The head of the Ministry of Public Security, Israel Patron Reyes, has assured that the self-defense groups are breaking the Law on Arms and Explosives Fire. Although Patron Reyes presented the proposal, he did not specify when or where disarmament will begin. The new group of armed civilians could be in collusion with organized crime.
Michoacán is one of the states where the boundary between self-defense and drug trafficking becomes more blurred. In Aguililla, where a group of civilians operates, the authorities have warned that they have ties to Carteles Unidos. against the rival criminal group, the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).
Already in the past, the federal government had started a dialogue with criminal groups to reach an agreement. Then, the specialists warned that it was a negotiation without rules. Criticism and controversy forced the authorities to reject the possibility of a pax narca.
Pueblos Unidos announced their formation on June 14, supported by avocado businessmen against the CJNG (Photo: JUAN JOSÉ ESTRADA SERAFÍN / CUARTOSCURO) |
As reported by Borderland Beat, on June 14, Pueblos Unidos appeared in videos, in which they explained why they formed the group: the workers live in some main avocado production points, which has brought violence, clashes, and uprisings to the Mexican state, including the of the activist Raúl Medrano Álvarez, who disappeared on the alleged orders of Miguel Ángel Gallegos Godoy, alias Migueladas, a former self-defense member accused of leading the Knights Templar group.
The new group of civilians received the support of the avocado businessmen since, according to their own statements, the Michoacán authorities have not spoken out due to the violence unleashed by the cartels. Important self-defense movements have already been gestated in the entity before. The most representative was led by José Manuel Mireles when he and other residents rose up in arms to fight against local criminal groups.

Simply my thought, but gun control by private citizens has been a terrible policy in Mexico. How do you protect yourself, your family and have a deterrence against blatant criminals. How many times have we seen in the USA, a convenience store owner or operator, being able to defend theirselves. Try to find this in an Oxxo station in MX. "Cartel Land" is a great documentary of Dr. Mireles and the rise of the Autodefensas. Their ability to rid communities of cartel members, and then their surrender of their weapons to the Federales. Given Federal uniforms, long guns, etc. they became an idealistic group into a mechanism for collaboration with gov't and trafficking. Witness Papa Smurf - what a turncoat
ReplyDeleteMexico had a gun culture until roughly the 1960s. It was in the massacre of Tlatelolco when the government began disarming citizens. Fast forward bro the 1970s.. “war on drugs”
DeleteBut even documentaries are not 100% truthful. Mireles was not really on the frontlines as the film portrays it. they made him the star of the show but he aint deserve it
DeleteI'm all for guns and all but I don't obsess over it the way you do. You make it seem like that's Mexico's only solution. You arming citizens isn't going to stop the criminals.
DeleteYou want to bet on that?
DeleteGovernment disarm citizens, because they don't trust their citizens. Thank God for 2 Amendment in the U.S. I wish the Mexican government would let the Autodefendance keep their guns, Amlo is not going to protect them.
DeleteEdgar Alvarado see how the fkn government dictates on citizens not having guns, bet you the Cartels are laughing getting it thier way.
Delete3:09 now a days you dont know who is a real autodefensa or who isnt, most of the time is just another cartel, if they let the autodefensas keep their guns cartels are just gonna change their name to autodenfasas and you wont be able to do anything easy as that.
DeleteIMO the first autodefensas fucked up when they let ex cartel or cartels for that matter into their ranks, they had a good thing going and they screwed it up
Umm . . Tlatelolco Massacre was the response to the 1968 Olympics. The Mexican armed forces opened fired on 10/2/1968 against UNARMED citizens, 10 days prior to Olympics in Mexico City. Carnal, to keep social order, no gun culture I can find. Who fired the first shot? Gov't or citizens, probably gov't in my opinion. Gun control doesn't work in Columbia, Venezuala, Central America, etc. Only criminals and gov't have guns. Who's to complain?
ReplyDeleteMexico had a gun culture up to the 1960s, it starting dying out along with the dying out of the revolutionaries. They were big on guns, because many fought for the Constitution of 1917, which allowed them to use guns. Look up article 10 of the constitution and how it was changed during that decade. Tlatelolco was a response for the 1968 Olympics, yes. However, they began disarming citizens out of fear of a revolution in response to the massacre.
DeleteYou see Cathi you were saying it's best for citizens at home to arm themselves. Now look what is happening, authority under the government want to disarm citizens from protecting themselves.
ReplyDeleteSee how I keep saying criminals have more rights but citizens can continue to be killed. Stupid government mentality.
Are you referring me ? If so, yes I feel sad for the disarmed citizens. Their identity has blown out. Mostly they'll be appearing in videos and cjng will tell us they belong to rival carteels or someone like thief/extortionist. Not juts stupid govt, but an evil govt. Either govt should protect or it should let people protect themselves. As you are saying, cartels together ruling Mexico since decades. I still would say it's best to arm citizens of govt cannot control crime.
DeleteKathi
Yes you r right. In the U.S. criminals r beginning to have more rights. Very sad to see our beautiful cities taken over criminals.
Delete3:12 that's horrifying to hear. As long as politicians going behind vote banks the country will be having dark times. Not every migrants will see USA as their nation. They should have rigorous rules before letting outsider to come in to USA. If any migrant seems to break rules, they should cancel his residence permit until proven he is changed. In case of repeatedd violation, should be deported. I'm sure democrats won't do that, their vote bank is migrants (be in any nationality). I guess the old NY crime families better than currently dominating afro/latin gangs in USA.
DeleteKathi
Quit lying, the democrats voting bank isn't migrants, sounds like you watch too much fack fox news.
DeleteNah I don't watch fox or cnn. I know fox is pro republic. I read in internet only. I don't trust news media's, one way or other way they will mostly support particular political agenda.

7:35 in the past, EPN sent his viceroy alfredo castillos de cagadas to talk to the AutoDefensas, he promptly corrupted everything and installed new governor silvanio aurioles conejos and his state narcos los Miagras.
ReplyDeleteThe federal government has never protected the michuakanuses, now it is not the time to disarm the people, it is time to disarm police and melitary and surrender to The People, they have been betrayed and sold down the river long enough, the state minister of security in his elegant offices Israel patron reyes belongs with aurioles and has never been a good cuico and he needs to get the fack out of the way, AMLO refused to see aurioles and left him sitting on a plastic chair outside Palacio Nacional, too late to come kissing his (AMLO's)ass.
Its prbly for the best last thing we need is a bunch of macho macho's running around packing weapons that they dont understand how to use with the crystal meth culture in Micho it would be a bunch of tweekers shooting at shadow people and flying chupacabra monkeys ! And thats just f-n silly . If the government says hey we got your back what more do you need . Just hearing that has prbly made all the criminals flee back to Sinaloa where all the criminals are from in Mexico . I know I feel better knowing the goverment is there for the people so at least we know their basic human rights will be the first order of Business and law and order and justice will return to the area like it was a couple years ago when Dr Mireles was president of Mexico and the murder rate was 0 % . Good for you Mexico your government is in control and your familias are safe as kittens .
ReplyDeleteMirelis president of Mexico? Lol Go back to your history books.
DeleteMijo he was in charge of an autodefensa group, that got infiltrated by government and cartel. Army went by orders of the Curupt government, to arrest Mireales, for gun violations, see what one gets for doing the right thing of protection from criminals coming to the towns. They brainwashed him, from restarting an autodefensa when he got out. Sure enough when he was out, kept quiet about issues against the government, not even becoming an activist. What Obrador offered him a job at a hospital, talk about government control, thanks to bribe money coming in.
Yes but at least Mireles was aloud to be president of the macho macho mustachio's union which allowed him to date even youbger women then the 14 yo's he was running around with all hopped up on viagra and mustachioed like a long lost member of the village people . The Real Macho Men . So Macho he didnt even need to carry a weapon anymore his facial hair protects him where he flows !
Delete12:12 comes in to belittle, what an ahole
DeleteAuthorities are another slaves of cartels. Guess so cjng can't get anything out of those farmers and poor peoples due to gun possession. So probably they pressurized to disarm them. Don't know how many torture videos will be released with three farmers. Sad to think about it. Within 14 days govt dissarmed them. That seems like self defence is not associated with any crime group. There is a saying in my native "either you live or let others live". Either Mexican authorities should save peoples from cartels or let the people save themselves. Horrible
ReplyDeleteKathi
Yep see how Curupt Mexico is I am sure in a few weeks, BB is going to have an article, that the military took away the citizens weapons.
DeletePic 2...these 3 guys wearing chest lunch pouches so they don't have to fight hungry...their wives are so caring.
ReplyDeleteCanadian girl💋
@2:08 A good Mexican wife is golden.
DeleteThe cartels have to be very happy, Amlo is on their side , take guns away from the innocent and give the to the cartels.
ReplyDeleteThese groups start right and morph into a cartel.
ReplyDeleteThey do start right, until the get moles/infiltrated people coming in, furthermore they would have to Ally, with a group that opposes the one wanting to take over.
DeleteMexico just keeps spitting on their people Jesus, first they don’t intervene and protect their people and now when the people defend themselves they wanna stop them from doing so. Hopefully those farmers tell the police to piss off and keep their guns
ReplyDeleteInstead of concentrating on the cartel members causing mayhem, kidnappings the government sends out, to have thier weapons taken away. Does not make since, government and police cannot provide safety for it's citizens.
ReplyDeleteHow is it that you are all so easily fooled. Not one armed group in Mexico is independent of a Political Party or a criminal organization. Pueblo Unidos is Carteles Unidos they just rebranded themselves paid the media ect. Pueblos Unidos was created for the eventuallity that will be CJNG pushing out El Abuelo, El Toro and Tetos, poncho and wicho, Raton, Yupo, Metro, Chompon, The Viagras, Boto, Seco, Tukan, Tena, out of their areas. They want to have a second stronghold.
ReplyDelete@9:59 This is correct.
DeleteSo Israel Patron Reyes, of Ministry and Public Safety in Michoacan of government is submitting a proposal to disarm law abiding citizens from protecting the towns.
ReplyDeleteHow many can smell that this guy is acting like a puppet for the criminal cartels? Don't you all raise your hands at once. See how cartels manipulate government officials.
Now why did this Mr. Isreal Reyes not take action against the cartel that ambushed 12 policemen a year ago.
Where was he when many townspeople have been slaughtered in the towns of Michoacan?
And now all of the sudden, he wants higher up to get arms taken away.
The more I read BB, the more transparency, is visible. Now we know who the true criminals are.
Ministry is being controlled by a cartel.
DeleteNo its still Al jourgensen hes been the main singer songwriter forever . Psalm69 will always be my favorite album but the song thieves is prbly better suited for the mexican govt. And remember Never Trust A Junkie .
DeleteI know these people. They are farmers, some have small avocado orchards. They are being extorted by CJNG. They belong to no cartels but are simply trying to eke out livings for their families. The government does nothing for them, no protection from a bunch of drug crazed monsters in this cartel. By taking away their weapons the government has guaranteed that they are at the mercy of CJNG. This is a monstrous act of betrayal. I hope they refuse.
ReplyDeleteYou know these people? Really? These people want to be left alone by all and any POS that wants to commit crime in their rancho, pueblo o ciudad to generate money. Politicos, mugrosos and chotas need to be kept in check to safeguard these and all people's livelihood. A chingar a su puta madre todos los muertos de hambre, especialmente los ojetes que llevan años chingando al pueblo. Muerte a los Culones Unidos
DeleteReply to 2:38 I have a house near Santa Clara del Cobre. These people are my neighbors. They are tired of being extorted by all the cartels. The government of AMLO does nothing for them, leaves them at the mercy of monsters and when they rise up to defend themselves wants to spread rumors that they are involved with the cartels and wants to take away their weapons. If AMLO cares about the people on the Ranchos he needs to talk with them and offer his support.
Delete6:28 we all know Almo is a puppet for the cartels, that bring in bribes to him and is brother. It will definitely show who he is in favor cater to. We all know he is going out to talk to the farmers.
DeleteHate to say it, but they should align with a cartel, that has the resources to fight or detour the Army from coming in, otherwise, this will keep happening to every autodefensa that wants to protect the town. Mirelis is a prime example his autodefensa was brought down thanks to the government.
