Elko López Muñoz, 38, a hitman of the Sinaloa Cartel faction Gente Nueva del Tigre, was sentenced to 37 years in prison for the murder of Edgar Edmundo Pérez de la Peña, the head of the Cuauhtémoc Municipal Police force.
On 1 December 2017, Elko went inside La Mariscada de Richie, a seafood restaurant in Cuauhtemoc, and sat behind Perez's table.
The security cameras inside the restaurant captured the exact moment when Elko got up from his table and shot Perez from the back at point-blank range. The police chief died in front of his family.
Elko and his accomplice Manuel Loera Peña then left the restaurant, but both of them were captured on 18 December 2017. Sources confirmed that Elko's accomplice was a former Municipal Police officer.
Public police records show that Elko spent two years in prison in the US state of Georgia for possession of cocaine. He was released from the Carrol County Correctional Institution in 2005 and likely deported back to Mexico, where he joined the Sinaloa Cartel. He had an alternative alias: Ramiro Alire Rascon.

People reacting very casually as if it's a movie scene. That says it all people are fed up seeing murders everyday. No panic or urge to help/call police/stopping the assailants from escaping like hitting from the back or putting leg while they run out. Arms maybe dropped in those cases. Don't waste that live in prison, give him capital punishment.. oh it's Mexico no capital punishment to criminals, but criminals can give capital punishment to peopele and justice
