CDN vs Police In Coahuila, Updates And More Photos

"HEARST" for Borderland Beat

As a follow up to yesterday’s story in which two shootouts occurred between police and members of Cartel de Noreste (CDN), there are further updates and more photos depicting various aspects of the shootings. For details about the incident, please see yesterday’s story

Following the first shootout on August 25, 2021 in which 3 members of the elite police subunit Action and Reaction Police (Policía de Acción y Reacción, PAR) were injured, a convoy of several PAR vehicles were seen escorting multiple ambulances.

The convoy was coming from the direction of the Plan de Guadalupe de Ramos Arizpe airport, Coahuila, where the officers presumably had been airlifted out to from the shootout location due to the severity of their injuries. The convoy drove from the airport to the Christus Muguerza Hospital in Saltillo, arriving at approximately 11:00 pm.

Heavily armed PAR officers were seen all night guarding the hospital from potential cartel members who might wish to finish off the injured officers. It is now reported that all three injured officers are recovering from their injuries and out of danger of dying

On August 26, 2021, the Governor of Coahuila, Miguel Riquelme Solís participated in the morning security coordination meeting, in which representatives of the federal government and heads of state corporations were present presumably for a debrief on the two shootouts.

Governor Miguel Riquelme later that day gave a press conference in which he confirmed details of the second shootout which had occurred earlier that day. The second shootout occurred at the same location as the first which is a point known as “Brecha del Gas” - where Coahuila adjoins the municipality of Anáhuac, Nuevo León.

As part of his press conference he said “Yesterday, once again, the strength of our institutions was seen. Yesterday, again Coahuila said no to the interference of organized crime in our entity. The message is clear: we are not going to let organized crime enter Coahuila. ”

Guard, the president announced that in the next few days they will deliver more equipment to the State security forces. Two other barracks will also be built: in La Brecha del Gas, in Hidalgo municipality, and in the Villa Unión municipality, in the northeast area of the state.
