"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat
Jacinto was a radio announcer for Ori Estéreo and owner of a news portal in the high mountains area.
This Thursday, journalist Jacinto Romero Flores, radio announcer of Ori Estéreo and owner of a news portal in the high mountain area, was shot dead in Ixtaczoquitlán, Veracruz, while traveling aboard his car on the streets of the Potrerillo Housing Unit.
The area was protected by elements of the Municipal Police, as well as elements of the State Police. The arrival of the staff of the Attorney General's Office (FGE) is also expected.
Last March, Jacinto Romero was threatened with death after publishing notes on problems that occur in the municipality of Texhuacan, located in the Sierra de Zongolica.
On that occasion, he asked the State Commission for the Attention and Protection of Journalists of the state of Veracruz (CEAPP) and the state authorities for their intervention to apply the protection mechanisms.
Through WhatsApp, the journalist received threats after reporting alleged abuses of authority by elements of the Municipal Police, recorded at a Sweet 15 party. In the message they warned him to stop publishing about Texhuacan or, otherwise, "something could happen to him."
The state government reported that they are actively seeking the aggressors and will not allow this type of event to go unpunished.
In coordination with staff of the Attorney General's Office (FGE) they are working on the search for the journalist's aggressors.
"From the Secretariat of Public Security of the State of Veracruz we reiterate that there will be no impunity nor will we allow anyone to intimidate the population," they said.
For those of you who seem to think that certain narratives are being pushed. Remind yourselves first who’s risking their lives and who’s running their mouth with nonsense.
