The former director of Public Security of Tarímbaro, Juan Osvaldo Cedeño Esquivias, was found dead inside a taxi in that zone.
According to local reports, the individual known as "El Zorro" was shot dead and his body was left in the driver's seat of the vehicle, abandoned on a road that connects to the town of El Puesto.
Residents of the area made the discovery this afternoon and alerted the authorities.
Police officers went to the place, cordoned off the area and notified the Attorney General's Office (FGE). Subsequently, personnel from the Expert Services and Crime Scene Unit began the investigations and transferred the body to the morgue of the local Forensic Medical Service (Semefo).
In June 2011, Cedeño Esquivias was pointed out as having alleged links with La Familia Michoacana, according to information from MVS Noticias published at that time.
The then Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) investigated "El Zorro" for his possible responsibility in the commission of crimes against health, organized crime and violation of the Federal Firearms Law.
The former police chief allegedly took advantage of his position to have access to inside information and update the members of the criminal group on the operations of the federal forces.
Cedeño Esquivias was arrested in the municipality of Álvaro Obregón by members of the Mexican Army on June 21, 2011 in possession of drugs and long weapons. He was later detained at the Federal Investigation Center of the Attorney General's Office in Mexico City, the Attorney General's Office announced at that time through a statement.
