"HEARST" for Borderland Beat
Surveillance video caught the moment when armed men arrived at the house of a 26 year old Tijuana man and forcibly kidnapped him.
According to the mother of the kidnapping victim, the incident took place at approximately 6:35 pm on Monday, August 23, 2021. Timestamps on the second surveillance video confirm this approximate time. She says her son José Gilberto Manjarrez, a resident of Tijuana city in Baja California, is 26 years old.
She detailed that José Gilberto had just left his house in order to go out to pick up a smartphone charger. Shortly after he stepped out of the door a black SUV vehicle arrived on the street with armed men inside. The SUV seen is similar in shape to a Honda Pilot model SUV. The vehicle, notably, had no license plates and had tinted windows.
Three armed men stepped out of the vehicle. At least one of the men had a firearm. The men grabbed José Gilberto and began beating him into compliance, dragging him towards their vehicle. They manage to force him into the inside of the black SUV.
The vehicle with the three men and now José Gilberto inside sped off on Vicente Guerrero Ave. No further details on the possible motive behind why José Gilberto was targeted by his kidnappers. The cartel affiliation of the kidnappers thought to be operating in this area is unknown.
This incident took place in the Mariano Matamoros neighborhood of Tijuana city, on the far east side. Mariano Matamoros is east of Cerro Colorado, the mountain that dots the south eastern section.
Unbelievable broad daylight kidnapping. Not even safe to go out the front door. Man should have yelled to attract more onlookers.
ReplyDeleteGreat article. Oddly, I do seem to find the history of narco properties quite fascinating. Thank you for digging up these fragments of history
ReplyDeleteWhat did he do to attract attention for the kidnappers to kidnap him?
ReplyDeleteYou see why it pays to have a gun for self defense.
ReplyDelete1233, the possibilities are truly endless. He may have glanced too long at a gang members girlfriend, he may have refused to join, chances are high that he did nothing. Smaller chance that he was also a gang banar, or the gang is running low on people and he is a forced recruit. Endless possibilities
