"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat
In 2021, more than 25,000 people were killed by drug cartels in Mexico according to official statistics. The true number is likely much higher. One of the most violent and brutal cartels is the Sinaloa Cartel. In collaboration with 550BC, we got access to footage recently filmed by a Sinaloa Cartel foot soldier. The result is this short documentary—an unflinching look inside the lives of Sinaloa Cartel militiamen as they advance to launch attacks on rival cartels.
The cartels make billions of dollars a year from drug trafficking, and have a presence in every state in Mexico. They now have equipment similar to that of the Mexican military and are often considered to be narco-militias. This documentary shows you the harsh realities of their lifestyle.
Sinaloa Foot Soldier accompanies a book by 550BC that documents the lives of the Sicarios in more intimate detail.

The leaders must sit back in their mansions and chuckle.These guys are eating rotten cow stew while their bosses eat like kings.The bosses sleep in nice warm beds with women and big screen TV's while these guys sleep in wet clothes in the dirt.I understand mental health is a real issue and loneliness and desperation can motivate people to make huge mistakes. However I cannot imagine someone who is not inherently evil joining a cartel. They ALL know full well what the job of a sicario is. Murder and human atrocities are a daily occurrence and are part of the "job". Stealing cars or robbing banks is wrong. Slaughtering, raping, and torturing people is pure evil and only someone with a black heart can sign on for this. A great many other Mexican citizens face the exact same hardships but they don't join a cartel.This guy says he doesn't consider himself a "bad person".That tells you all you need to know.These guys are savages. ReplyDeleteMexico has been glamourizing cartels hard core the last couple of years. Novelas, music and TV shows of cartel bosses and sicarios living good with pretty women and luxuries. Most kids join think8ng they will be living good like in the movies and novelas but the reality is diferent.
DeleteNow they are stuck working as a sicario for meth and if they complain or leave the cartel they will be hunted down and killed. Its all fun snd games till these sinaloas get sent out to fight in a CJNJ plaza and get killed or tortured.
To be a sicario in these days is suicide.
