The operation carried out by agents of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) was captured on video and showed the way in which they arrived at the boat in which the packages with cocaine were being transported, and how they rescued the packages that had been thrown into the sea.
In the audiovisual material of less than a minute, it was possible to observe how a camera onboard a Semar aerial vehicle captured the moment in which the four subjects were moving through the waters southeast of Manzanillo at great speed, which was recorded in night vision format since it is presumed that the subjects moved over the sea in the last hours of the morning.
Later, the same camera recorded from a great distance the moment in which a helicopter from the security corporation approached the boat to identify the subjects and their cargo. In a later recording, it was possible to see how the federal agents entered the boat to secure the different packages that the four subjects were transporting to the ports of Colima.
Through a statement, Semar communicated about “the seizure of approximately 1,700 kilograms of alleged cocaine, as well as a smaller vessel; in addition to the arrest of four alleged transgressors of the law, on the coast of Manzanillo, Colima.”
According to information provided by Semar, the seizure was carried out 270 nautical miles, about 500 kilometers, southeast of the coast of Manzanillo, a place attended by elements of the Sixth and Eighth Naval Regions, corresponding to Manzanillo and Acapulco; in addition to members of the Pacific Naval Force.
“With the support of an aircraft, he detected a smaller vessel with three outboard motors and four crew members on board, who, upon noticing the presence of air and surface units (vessels), proceeded to flee by throwing objects into the sea, at that a persecution began that culminated in the securing of the boat and the arrest of the presumed transgressors of the law,” reported Semar.
Upon noticing the presence of the authorities, the subjects threw several of the cocaine packages into the sea, which were searched for and recovered by elements of the Ocean Patrol, who carried out "a timely follow-up that concluded with the recovery and seizure of 35 packages containing a total of 1,400 packages weighing approximately 1,700 kilograms of alleged cocaine.”
The authorities highlighted "that this operation, which was carried out under the trinomial operational concept (ship - helicopter - interceptor), as well as the use of state-of-the-art technologies, prevented the alleged drug from reaching the illicit market."
