5 Members of La Familia Michoacana Arrested in Connection with the Zinapecuaro Cockfighting Massacre

Five alleged members of La Familia Michoacana captured are also linked to the recent attack on the Michoacán Prosecutor's Office.

Federal and local authorities detained five alleged members of La Familia Michoacana, who are being investigated for their involvement in the massacre of 20 people in a palenque in Zinapécuaro, as reported by Borderland Beat, as well as attacks on ministerial facilities in Maravatío.

Federal sources consulted confirmed to Infobae México the belonging of the subjects to the faction that registers operations in the East of Michoacán and part of the State of Mexico. According to ministerial authorities, the subjects were detained in a town in the municipality of Susupuato. They are Fernando José E., José Antonio Q., Adrián C., Juan Antonio M., and Irvin R. Also seized were three 7.62mm rifles (AK-47); two .22 caliber rifles; a .270 rifle; a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun, and a 40mm grenade launcher attachment.

"Jute sacks containing apparently marijuana, were also seized," said the Michoacán Prosecutor's Office, which is investigating the alleged participation in both attacks. According to the official report, the five men were located on a dirt road that leads to the town of El Mago, carrying long weapons. Agents from the National Anti-kidnapping Coordination, the National Intelligence Center, the National Guard, the Army, and the local prosecutor's office participated in the operation.

After their arrest, the alleged criminals were transferred to the city of Morelia to be placed at the disposal of the Attorney General of the Republic at the headquarters of the Michoacán entity. The preliminary indications of the authorities will continue to support the crimes committed on February 9. In the early-morning shootout against the offices of the Michoacán Prosecutor's Office and the actions to provide support for the attack, three agents were injured. At that time the participation of Los Correas was not ruled out, indicated as allies of La Familia Michoacana.

This recent weekend in a clandestine palenque of Zinapécuaro, 19 people were killed in the place, while one more victim died on the way to the hospital. In addition, four people were injured by the attack.

The Michoacán Prosecutor's Office has identified 19 of the 20 people murdered, including three with US citizenship, in addition to a subject with aliases of Chapo, from Guatemala. To date, only one subject nicknamed El Chapo remains protected, who is possibly originally from Guatemala. All the others have already been claimed by relatives.

Federal authorities had already pointed out that the massacre that claimed the lives of 20 people derived from reprisals between members of organized crime. In that area that borders Guanajuato and approaches the State of Mexico, cells of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), Los Correas, and La Michoacana Family are vying for control.

Preliminary reports indicate that the revenge was planned against an alleged regional head of the CJNG who migrated from his affiliation with La Familia Michoacana. Halcones located the alleged ringleader and an operation was deployed to execute him, however, the Correas would have served as support for these actions.

The CJNG, led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, El Mencho, denounced in a video broadcast on social networks that those who executed the 20 victims were hosts of the leader of the Familia Michoacana, Medardo Hernández Vera alias el Cien or Lalo Mantecas; They pointed to the coordination with Daniel Correa, head of the cell that bears his last name.

  1. Interesting. They may have really caught some of the real perpetrators. Not all though. They found .223 caliber casings at the scene. Not all of the firearms involved in the massacre were confiscated, so not all the sicarios involved were apprehended.

  3. It's a mess in michoacan right now.
Michoacan was solid at one point but Calderon messed that up with the michoacanazo starting around 2006.
Michoacanos were tight and that's when they took out the zetas after creating FM. It was a big threat to chapo so he paid good money to Calderon to make sure he was the top dog and eliminating any threat to his big dog position.
(It's all I'm chapos trial about chapo paying narco-president Calderon a bunch of millions)
After Calderon Sent all the federales and army to michoacan the cartel fragmented to caballeros templarios and familia michoacana, viagras, C.U and more cells around michoacan.
FM had morelos, michoacan, parts of Colima and guanajuato.
The michoanazo just messed up michoacan instead of helping it, now it's more bloody and everyone fighting for power like in Tamaulipas after the fall of Guillen..
Catching big capos doesn't solve anything, it just makes that area more violent and cartels split and fight for power.
El abuelo backstabed mencho and stole his load of coke and went independent and took his labs and connections in the U.S market. That's the reason for cjng and C.U going at it..
Event nought mencho is dead, that won't stop the violence and there won't ever be a truce and there won't ever be a solid cartel dominating that area.
Even sinaloa plazas are suffering after chapo fot caught......ext, ext, ext
