"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat
The founder of the Arellano Cartel is requesting a release "for humanitarian reasons." This means that he could apply for an immediate release.
The founder of the Arellano Cartel, Benjamín Arellano Félix, has asked the California District Court for an early release from his sentence that was scheduled for the year 2033, his defense will argue on the grounds that it is "out of compassion".
MILENIO had access to his judicial file that reveals that since last April 26 of this year he filed a request for a hearing where he will ask to be released early.
In an unusual movement, the Court and the Department of Justice have classified the document with the detailed reasons as "reserved", however in a summary of the movement it is revealed that "El Señor" and his defense will pursue section 18 thousand 3582 of the United States code.
This establishes that the judge will reconsider in some cases of a criminal nature that prison is not an adequate means to promote correction and rehabilitation or for "extraordinary reasons and justified weight", among other arguments.
It should be noted that the founder of the Arellano Cartel, one of the most bloodthirsty in the modern history of Mexico, is requesting a release "for humanitarian reasons." This means that he could apply for an immediate release.
Benjamín Arellano Félix was sentenced in 2012 to spend 25 years in prison after negotiating with the United States government and handing over 100 million dollars. In his record in the United States Bureau of Prisons it is still established that he must be in a cell at the USP LEE penitentiary until the year 2033.
No sympathy for criminals, especially when lots were murdered. Got to continue paying the Piper.
