Mexican Army and National Guard personnel secured a camp in Mazamitla and detained eight people in two days, following last Sunday's confrontation and blockades in that municipality in the southeastern region of Jalisco.
This was announced by the Undersecretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, during the morning conference at the National Palace.
The arrest and seizure was achieved during surveillance patrols in the town of Corral de La Mula, in the municipality of Mazamitla, a border area with San José de Gracia, Michoacán, where 17 people were shot last February 27.
"The National Guard and the Secretary of National Defense have made permanent arrests in the region and between May 2 and May 4, eight people were arrested with different weapons, cartridges, tactical vests and other weaponry. Eight were detained and operations continue in this part of Michoacán and Jalisco with very good results," said Mejía Berdeja.
Among those arrested was a minor. Two of them were identified as Marcos Omar and Luis Fernando.
The eight detainees and the seized goods were handed over to the Ciudad Guzmán sub-delegation of the Attorney General's Office.
The official recalled that this area is operated by the Pájaros Sierra group, which is linked to the Jalisco Cartel - New Generation.
