LA County Raids on 167 Grow Op Locations Seize 57,000 Pounds of Marijuana, 207,000 Plants, Ghost Guns and 105 Arrests

Los Angeles County law enforcement nabbed 105 suspects and more than 270,000 marijuana plants in a massive Antelope Valley raid spanning 167 locations, authorities announced Tuesday.

The Marijuana Eradication Team consists of the sheriff's department, the California National Guard Counterdrug Task Force, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. served 278 marijuana cultivation-related search warrants in the Antelope Valley between May 17 and Friday, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said.

The search warrants also resulted in the seizure of at least 40 firearms, including 11 ghost guns, and nearly 57,000 pounds of harvested marijuana, Sheriff's officials said. The operation resulted in the demolition of at least 167 locations after authorities determined they were unsafe to work in, Villanueva said.

It's the second time in the last year that authorities conducted a crackdown on illegal marijuana grow operations in the Antelope Valley. In July, authorities seized $1.9 billion from marihuana operations in the Antelope Valley. This month's nine-day joint operation aimed at taking down multiple illegal marijuana grows in the Antelope Valley also resulted in the seizure of several tons of marijuana products, the county sheriff's department announced.

The LASD anticipates warrants will be served at the remaining 60 to 75 illegal cultivation sites identified in the Antelope Valley by fall 2022.

    1. Ghost gun kits include all of the necessary component parts to turn the unfinished frame or receiver into a fully functioning gun, which once assembled looks, feels, and functions like a traditional gun

    1. Nothings lost there? Your either not familiar with the profit margin of mota not requiring transportation cost across border; or ignorant of the wholesale value of that weight of mota both in California, or more significant exported east from California

    2. @12.28 - I vote this comment as most clueless comment on bb th last month. 57,000 lbs not having expense of shipped outside the Mexican mountains, expense to ship past militar check points, expense up the corridors bypassing piso, crossing the border, then getting past the border patrol check points, and finally driven to whatever market of sale it’s destined to hit market. USA grown mota brings so much more than Mexican exported mota, and with labor costs using Mexican labor is the USA, the added labor expense is not even significant enough to mention.

    3. Most of those illegal grow farms are cartel funded anyways..What you guys think cartels ain’t the ones who really owns those illegal grow farms that’s all cartel money

    5. They raided over 150 spots during harvest. So probably a mix of groups from Mhong, Mexican cartel grows, motorcycle gangs, and others. Still a big black market in California due to license and tax costs. And also shopping out. They get people more for water and electricity violations than growing with fines.

    1. Its mostly local criminal element present in the area with some operations being looked after by immigrants.Just a mixed bag of opportunist. It seems many area concessions were given by the Church and their families along with their security elements. The Covid unemployment led to a big jump in grow recruitment/setup. Local and Foreign DTOs are present, but they still need the police in order to efficiently operate. One reason El Chapos children were born down the street from an FBI office in the Antelope Valley. Doors are opened and closed by the very elements that "SERVE" only themselves.

    1. True. But the stress free money is in allowing the grows to setup then investigating and shutting them down. Along with maintaining a surveillance structure (formal and informal teams). It works out for a minority and you get to maintain a marketplace tax regime in place. So its a win win, if your that minority.
