Acapulco Bar Association President Killed Outside Nightclub

"Socalj" for Borderland Beat

Jesús Rivera Rojas, association president and bar owner in the popular tourist area of Acapulco was murdered outside of his bar.

Acapulco, one of the most popular tourist destinations nationally and internationally, welcomed the start of the vacation period with the murder of the businessman, Jesús Rivera Rojas. He was also the president of the Association of Bars, Restaurants, and Nightclubs of the Costera de Acapulco, in Guerrero.

The event was recorded around 5:00 a.m. on July 31, when armed individuals attacked the owner of the “Tóxicas” bar on the outskirts of it, while he was getting into his private BMW-type vehicle after closing his business.

So far, the number of attackers is unknown. However, police reported that the criminals, aboard a vehicle, "paired up" with Rivera Rojas to open direct fire against him. Although the businessman was seriously injured, testimonies indicate that he tried to escape on foot, but the gunmen managed to catch up with him, kill him and flee. Meanwhile, the victim's body was lying on Costera Miguel Alemán Avenue's pavement.

The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) confirmed the death through its social networks, although it did not delve into more details.

The businessman's body was left lying on the Costera Miguel Alemán.

It is worth mentioning that the homicide not only occurs in the middle of the holiday season but also after the deployment of several elements of the Armed Forces (FF.AA) instructed by the governor, Evelyn Salgado, as part of the 2022 Summer Holiday Season Operation.

This implied the participation of just over 1,960 officials from the three government orders. For its part, and at the state level, it was ordered to deploy 634 state police and 128 units to safeguard tourists, mainly in destinations such as Acapulco, Zihuatanejo, and Taxco.

Even one day before his murder, Jesus, also known as Chuy, projected an improvement in the economy with the arrival of tourism - from whom a hotel occupancy of up to 85% is expected on weekends.

Under this tenure, Chuy also mentioned that the arrival of the new Municipal Public Security Secretary, Adrián Olivas Francos, could mean "changes for the better" because "it was convenient for the port to be safer."

Homicides and public attacks have increased in Acapulco.

According to figures from the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Guerrero closed the first half of 2022 with 542 intentional homicides; positioning it as the seventh with the most cases. In that period, only Acapulco reported 175 murders.

Between Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31, seven victims of intentional homicide were registered in the state of Guerrero, according to the daily count of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).

  1. Los Angeles has 757 homicides in the last 12 months, 15 homicides on July 18th 2022 and 30 homicides for the month of July. Mexico has some catching up to do.

    1. Can't truly compare that. Acapulco has 650,000 versus almost 4 million in population for LA.

    4. Wow interesting how that doesnt make national news everywhere, like monkeypox or public white shooters. Probably because blacksy and latinos killing each other doesnt fit the lefts agenda.

Yes I looked it up in The LA Times.

      It's 757 homicides as of July 18th, 2022. Not July 30th

  3. Guerrero 542 for only 6 months. I always like to compare US fentanyl / drug overdoses to Mex cartel slaughter. About double.
