Australian Man Jailed for 188 Kilo Cocaine Shipment from Mexican Cartel

"Socalj" for Borderland Beat

Police estimate the seized cocaine had a street value of $47 million AUD.

A man has been jailed after police busted a 188kg cocaine shipment sent into Australia by a Mexican drug cartel. The 50-year-old Sydney man, from Picnic Point, was sentenced to nine years in prison, with a non-parole period of five years. The charges related to a 2019 cocaine import that was seized by police.

Investigators later observed the man moving hundreds of aluminum ingots and trying to access the cocaine hidden inside. The man was already in prison for an unrelated matter when he was charged.

The cocaine was concealed in aluminum ingots.

AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Luke Wilson said cocaine's popularity with Australians made the country a target market. "The high demand for cocaine in Australia is at the forefront of our battle with organized crime syndicates; they see that big dollar sign over Australia and know the profit they can make is substantially more than any other target market," Wilson said. Police said this shipment, along with most of the cocaine found in Australia, originated from Colombia and other parts of South and North America.

  1. But don’t all you mexicans on here say it’s the US fault you produce so many drugs??? Once again proving mexico only need look in the mirror

    1. Oh shit he just called out all those sorry ass Mexicans who like to push drugs for a living. The balls in your court haters. 🤣

Vamos a ver con que mamada salen los culitos.

    2. @3:44.. Both my parents were born in Mexico and immigrated to the U.S. but unlike many others I can see things objectively. Unlike many ingrates who live here and actually live a pretty good life here I appreciate what I have here, which is not much but I know it's better than if I lived anywhere else. Our parents or grandparents came here because obviously things were pretty bad where they came from and they worked hard to make a better life for them and theirs. Anyway, yah it's not the big bag U.S. fault for all the chaos in Mexico (at least not the citizen's). If it weren't for the drug demand here it would be more kidnappings for ransom, counterfeit, extortion and other illegal means of making a quick cheap buck because of the lawlessness in that country.

      Delete
    3. 3:44 I don't see how that is relevant.

    4. Poor choice of wording to say “produce” considering Mexico obviously didn’t produce this it was produced in Colombia. And yes it’s 2022, we know how much the market outside of the Americas matters these days.

    5. How dare you sir state that criminals are responsible for there own criminal behavior! The nerve! And, on que, the supposed immediate argument killer, your a racist they basically scream!

    6. 3:44 Dont want drugs?, dont buy them. Its pretty simple. No need to blame anyone.

Nope. I don't see the relevance. Since you're not slow please explain.

      Delete
    10. @8:44 Triggered because I simply corrected an incorrect statement about cocaine being produced in Colombia instead of Mexico? I don’t know what’s worse, your stupidity or your boredom.

      Delete
    11. 9:25 With that said, some of us still why blaming Mexico?

  2. While fentanyl dominates the headlines in the U.S. and Canada, cocaine has pretty much blown up all over the rest of the world. If you’re a transnational crime syndicate these days and you’re not substantially involved in the cocaine trade you’re basically a nobody. All the big players these days, all the biggest mafias in the world right now are working with cocaine. Albanian mafia, Turkish mafia, 'Ndrangheta, Kinahan Organization, etc.

      Delete
    2. 06:03 that's for sure true, I mean how can you compete with Colombia???

I still think cartel members (i.e. CDS) are fucking restarted for travels to Europe (especially Amsterdam) to try to peddle meth and cocaine.

      Well that's meth head logic..

      😂

Like chemists responsible for cooking millions of hits of MDMA "x pills" and Amphetamine Sulfate "speed not ice" CAN'T figure out how to synthesize methamphetamine.... Or fly to Medellin to get a coca plug

Maybe meth is making a comeback in Germany and Holland is supplying the demand, but nobody fucking needs Chapitos AT ALL....

I bet they are so eager to get some shitty laced Fentanyl (with impurities) cocaine and meth from Mexico

      🤣 Jajaj

    3. @6:01 Not old news when it keeps getting bigger and bigger. What’s “old” to you? It’s relevant to I guess the 2020s in general but especially this year.

      Delete
    4. @6:03 Yeah I heard something recently about meth trafficking in Europe and something about Czechia and Germany.

      Delete
    5. @6:18 “how can you compete with Colombia???”

CDS is in Colombia and finances the Clan del Golfo and ELN and controls a lot of the cultivation processes in South America directly.

    9. 6:32 It's old news. Fentanyl gets the headlines, as they should, because of the deaths but cocaine has been exploding all over the world since the 70s. Where have you been?

      Delete
    10. @10:36 LOL are you nuts??!

What I said has only been going on since around 2019/2020.. Did you get into some of Sir’s stash or something? If not this is like a new breed of trolling. Kinahan Cartel has only been headlining in the news since April of this year. How is that old? Cocaine reshaping the criminal landscape of Europe is very new so what the fuck are you talking about

      Delete
    11. 10:36 You’re joking right

      Delete
    12. 12:15 I never mentioned what cartels, I said *cocaine* exploding all over the world. New or old cartels, they change but not the cochise trade. Old news.

      Delete
    13. 11:03 Why do you keep repeating the same shit as if that somehow makes it real? Cocaine is obviously at new heights globally, sorry you haven’t been keeping up but this is a 2020’s thing so that’s kind of the very definition of “new”. Not a single sentence or statement in my original comment would’ve been true if this was even just 5 years ago so that’s how I know you’re full shit.

Where do you get your news from? I’m guessing you haven’t been on InsightCrime or read the Europool or Interpol in… well, years. Name one sentence I said that would ring true just 5 years ago. It’s ok, I’ll wait.. I mean for starters, you know the Albanian mafia switching their business model from primarily sex trafficking to cocaine was extremely recent right? And organized crime groups basically needing to get involved in the cocaine trade to be big players now is also extremely recent too.. You seem just sooo lost here. Cocaine didn’t even start rising in popularity (again) until 2014 so I don’t even know where to begin with you bro. You must have some blood/family relationship to SIR or something because this is a little over the top even for BB comments. I would expect this level of ignorance on the topic from YouTube comments or something. But wow, just wow.

    16. Cocaine comes from south america to europe. Its paid for in cash or its exchanged with mdma. Meth is send and cooks are send to europe from mexican cartels. They get paid in money or mdma as well. The drug exchange thing is related to not being able to send so much money monthly without bringing in too much attention.

    1. Why would you assume Aussies don’t live coke? That’s so predictable and obvious

      Delete
    2. 10:37 Distance and availability. Its predictable and obvious coke exists there. But not at that level, outbidding latin america in consumption rates.

      Delete
    3. It’s becoming more popular in Australia, it’s much more expensive due to distance so ice/meth was always more popular and consumed as a party drug there. But more are importing massive amounts of coke

      Delete
    4. 12:37 Distance and availability doesn’t have anything to do with people loving it or not loving it. If you knew the first thing about Aussie culture you would predictably guess that there’s a huge cultural craving for coke there. It’s not even that different from the U.K. in terms of drinking and drug culture. Of course the Australians would be cokeheads. You people make me wonder sometimes. Just when I think we’re on the same page I read comments like OP’s lol

I’ve always considered Australians one of the biggest lovers of cocaine. Matches up well with their culture. Next you’ll try to tell me Scotland doesn’t like coke lol..

      Delete
    5. 6:06 The fact that consumption rates in Australia are significantly bigger than the ones of countries like Colombia and Mexico, thats a truly love for cocaine. And of course distance and availability counts. Just weird.

      Delete
    6. 7:32 Yeah it’s definitely weird but still predictable to me and makes plenty of sense. If you saw the list of countries in order of cocaine use prevalence you would see how odd it really is. It’s like the whitest and most western countries at the top always especially like Wales/England and shit like that.

    7. Its like a love on first sight with cocaine.

    1. How is heroin more profitable than coke? Literally white gold.

There’s a reason the Turks have switched from mostly trafficking heroin to cocaine recently.

      Delete
    2. 9:06 fentanyl is the most profitable

      Delete
    3. 12:03 Short term profits, since users die faster.

      Delete
    4. 12:03 I said heroin not fentanyl.. Nice try though. Of course we all already know how profitable fent is since it can be clandestinely manufactured and doesn’t require cultivation, sunlight, irrigation, etc. but heroin still does so… how the heck can you say H is more profitable than coke..? Well spoiler alert; it’s not. Coke is still king and fent is the only thing that has the possibility to surpass it if anything. However, one also has to recognize that the coke market is still significantly larger than the heroin and fentanyl markets. That’s just how it is. I don’t make the rules.

  8. Cowards in Mexico have nothing good to say, they hate when the truth is painful. The games plays to lure people into drug crime, the corrupt are doing the bidding of the worst of criminals, the demand is the lie, when the push is more than the demand, omit the truth, blame those wasting their lives using drugs, all of you defending the pushers are no better than the biggest burden in Mexico. You say bullshit to look reasonable, but we know who the narco eugenicists are, a the Rico mamon AMLO is playing both sides.
