According to personnel from the Ministry of Public Safety and Municipal Traffic, Juan Miguel was appointed deputy director of the Municipal Police this afternoon. The agent known as the “Boxer” also owned El Boxer seafood. Silva Alvarado was appointed Deputy Director of the police force on Saturday morning. And he served as commander of Costa Rica.
The homicide occurred minutes after 10:00 PM. outside Corporativo 120, located on Alfonso Zaragoza Maytorena Boulevard, in the Tres Ríos Urban Development, just near the Sinaloa State Attorney General's Office. The deputy director was at the scene along with other agents in three patrols, organizing an operation to review bars and cantinas.
According to the information provided, armed men arrived at the site and shot the commander before fleeing. The agents who were on the site were unable to repel the attack. Juan Miguel fell dead on the sidewalk of Corporativo 120 with shots to various parts of his body.
In addition, versions not confirmed by the authorities indicate that the municipal policemen were subdued and disarmed by the aggressors.
The undersecretary of State Public Security, Carlos Alberto Hernández Leyva, said that it was a direct attack on the commander. He pointed out that the gunmen came to shoot Juan Miguel with long weapons and did not fire at the other police officers who were at the scene. He mentioned that after the homicide elements of all the police corporations and the National Guard were deployed in the area in a search operation for those responsible.
The State Secretary of Public Security, Cristobal Castañeda, made the incident known through his Twitter account: “Elements of the @SSPyTM_Culiacan were attacked by armed civilians; directly an element was attacked and unfortunately lost his life,” although he did not mention “El Boxer.”

The assassination of the deputy director on the day he took that position comes on the same day that 250 soldiers from the Army were deployed to increase security in Culiacan, Sinaloa.
