The Attorney General's Office (FGR) carried out the search of an address located in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood, in Mexicali, given the indications that there was a cross-border tunnel.
The suspicions were confirmed on the afternoon of this Friday, October 28, when investigative elements, who were accompanied by agents of the National Guard and elements of the State Force and Citizen Security; and the Army -these last two are the ones that found the property-, because they located the hole in the middle of the house that -apparently- used to be an evangelical center.
The property located on Aguascalientes and Manuel Gomez Morín streets, Poniente, in the aforementioned community, has been guarded by authorities since Wednesday.
According to sources from the institution, the cross-border tunnel was not yet ready, but it was already reaching the United States.
Inside the building, the hole and machinery with which they opened the ground and removed earth were located.
There were no detainees, but apparently it had been several days without registering the entry of people, but due to its size, it is confirmed that the intention was to build a cross-border tunnel.
Several security elements attended the scene and it was even possible to observe the overflight of a National Guard unit, which remained in the area to mark the perimeter.
It is unknown -at the moment- to which criminal group the "narco-tunnel" belonged, but historically, this type of construction has been habitually used by the Sinaloa cartel.
