“La Tuta” Sentenced to 47 Years in Mexican Prison for Leading the Knights Templar

“Socalj” for Borderland Beat

Servando Gomez Martinez was previously sentenced to 55 years in 2019 for kidnapping.

A federal judge in Nayarit sentenced Servando Gómez Martínez, also known as La Tuta, to 47 years and six months in prison after his convictions for leading an organized criminal group and crimes against health. La Tuta was a former leader and ex-spokesman of the "Los Caballeros Templarios" or Knights Templar Cartel, an offshoot of La Familia Michoacan founded by Nazario Moreno González, "El Chayo."

A team attached to the Specialized Prosecutor for Organized Crime (FEMDO), achieved a conviction against La Tuta after proving that he was acting as leader of "The Knights Templar" cartel. During the trial, the FGR pointed out that in the Knights Templar, Gómez Martínez was one of the leaders with management and administration functions for drug trafficking in various states of the country, mainly in Michoacán.

"La Tuta" was arrested in Morelia, Michoacá on February 27, 2015, by the now-extinct Federal Police (PF). Since then he has been held at "Altiplano prison based in Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico.

Before becoming a cartel leader, Servando was a primary school teacher in Arteaga, where he is from. H became the leader after the death of Nazario Moreno González, "El Chayo," and the capture of Jesús Méndez Vargas "El Chango," of the Los Caballeros Templarios.

In June 2019, Servando Gómez received a 55-year sentence for his responsibility in kidnapping a businessman, according to the Michoacán Prosecutor's Office.

    2. Those Michoacán bosses don’t run out of money most just realize that being flashy is no good and a big no no bringing unnecessary attention. Tuta is smart but let his ego get in the way when he became a boss for CT. What good is a person’s intelligence if they have no wisdom.

  12. And we criticize Russia for having people brainedwashed with there state media TV, LA Tuta is out, I guess it was an agreement cause he had a lot of evidence of government people making deals or talking to him, so I'm guessing that he get caught, show a video of him in prison giving a speech so people can see he is in prison and just like hiding, he dissappears, a lot of people has seen him, but don't say anything cause he helped a lot of people, only that he ain't trying to run a cartel cause he didn't have people cause they went there own ways plus didn't have any income to pay his crew, he don't don't want attention anymore
