Controversial, Lawyer Of "Cabo 20 Or El Lobo" Killed In Tijuana

TIJUANA BC FEBRUARY 15, 2023 (AFN) - Víctor Hugo López Ramírez, who was murdered on Wednesday afternoon in Tijuana, was a criminal lawyer with an office in Mexico City, and who almost three years ago, was accused of bribing authorities to allow one of his clients, Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales, "El Z-40", to escape from a federal prison.

It was around 3:00 p.m. when it was reported that a man was shot and killed while eating at a taco stand located a few steps from the Tijuana delegation of the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and the District Courts, places where the constant presence of police officers is common.

Hours later, the state prosecutor's office confirmed the identity of the litigator, who according to his own website, had more than 20 years of experience, mainly litigating criminal and amparo matters, "with a high degree of specialization in federal crimes and special crimes, such as Organized Crime, as well as extensive experience in International Extradition proceedings".

Meanwhile, the state prosecutor insisted that "El Cabo 20" was the mastermind behind the murder of Martínez Esquivel, who was allegedly upset by some journalistic publications that were wrongly attributed to the photojournalist.

No further details were known about the judicial process against López Jiménez, also nicknamed "El Lobo", after his arrival in Tijuana last November to face a charge for another crime.

Likewise, an internet search found a video released in May 2020, where a man with his face hidden addresses a message to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and some secretaries of state, warning of an alleged plan for the escape of Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales, "El Z-40", from the Puente Grande prison in Jalisco.

Regarding this case, the unidentified man refers to three meetings between the lawyers of "El Z-40" and the director of the penitentiary, to whom they allegedly handed over important sums of money to allow the escape. The main lawyer of the detainee, who is said to be the founder of Los Zetas, was Víctor Hugo López Ramírez, precisely the lawyer murdered with bullets, at least one in the head, while he was eating tacos in Tijuana.

Regarding this crime, the Secretary of Public Security in Tijuana, Fernando Sánchez González, who participated in the police operation derived from this event, confirmed the arrest of a presumed participant in the execution, who allegedly ran away to enter a self-service store, located in the same Río zone.
