Two were killed and one was injured after an armed attack against a tire repair shop (vulcanizadora) in El Tulillo de Abajo, a neighborhood of San José Iturbide, Guanajuato, reported local journalist Miguel Ángel Mejía H. Tire repair shops in Guanajuato are attacked frequently, as they are sometimes used as fronts for criminal activity.
According to an interview with security expert David Saucedo, the attacks are the result of a targeted campaign by both criminal groups to destroy each other's economic engines, as the tire shops are used as sites for the dealing of meth and stolen gasoline.
