"Ivan" for Borderland Beat
Guaymas, Sonora - Relatives identified the woman who was found dead on the side of the federal highway Guaymas-Hermosillo.
The victim's name was Clarisa Alejandra García Morell, who had been missing since February 18th of this year.
Her body was found wrapped in a plastic bag and her body showed visible signs of violence.

Guaymas/Obregon/Empalme is a shit show, getting worse every day. Hermosillo used to be somewhat insulated, but now Hermosillo is being sucked in as well. Sonora is really bad right now. There are articles like this every week, sometimes every day for several days at a time.

Yes, I wonder about this too. We all read the stories when the bodies are discovered, but seldom is there follow-up. Do investigators take DNA samples? Do they share the pathology report and case file with forensic psychiatrists or Mexico's equivalent of the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit? Is there a DNA database in Mexico? There's a sense of futility reading these stories because there doesn't seem to be a mechanism to classify femicides, distinguish them in some way from each other, and inform the public on the progress of the investigation. So it becomes like a sad, sickening circus.
