"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat
Former DEA operations chief Mike Vigil said that designating Mexican cartels as terrorist groups "is pure political theater".
Mike Vigil, former head of international operations for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), said that Mexican cartels are operating in almost every state in the United States; mainly CJNG and Sinaloa.
"The cartels are operating in almost all the states of the country, mainly the Sinaloa and CJNG, and they are like paramilitaries, because they travel in armored trucks and have large weapons," said the former DEA agent.
In an interview for Radio Fórmula, Mike Vigil assured that due to the great control they have over drug sales, particularly the Sinaloa Cartel, they are a danger for the United States and Mexico, as well as for the whole world.
"These cartels operate in the south of Mexico, but they also control many of the routes between Mexico and the United States, which generates competition among the same criminal groups to control border states such as Guanajuato, Tamaulipas, Baj Caifornia, Chihuahua and Sonora.
Likewise, Mike Vigil pointed out that the proposal to designate Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations would not be the solution, as it is almost symbolic, since the only thing it allows is for the United States to freeze the accounts of criminals in that country.
It also sanctions if U.S. citizens have business dealings with these criminal groups and are supported by them, and a third point is to prevent them from entering the United States.
"If they were to designate the cartels as terrorist groups, they would have to act against arms manufacturers in the United States, because they are supporting the cartels, 70 percent of the cartels' weapons come from the United States," added Mike Vigil.
The former DEA chief of operations described the Republicans, who are seeking this designation, as hypocrites, since he said that "they don't want to do anything against arms manufacturers".
"It's pure political theater in the face of the U.S. elections, they don't do anything, they just keep criticizing everyone including Biden," he said.
Yeah that's right 🦂💀
ReplyDeleteNever heard of an armored vehicle being involved in anything stateside, let alone 50's n cartel folk being taken in. Shoutout to Mike's sisters, Mona n Anita- the foxes of Española
ReplyDeleteI called bullshiRt on that too..If its true , maybe to bosses have armored vehicles but the sicarios (Hit squads)are not rolling in armored suvs with ak's or 50's for ccx that matter. No ballistics jackets or grenade launchers either.
DeleteNever said cartels were operating in the US with armored vehicles and 50 caliber machine guns. The reference was that is the way they operate in Mexico. Never said Guanajuato was a border state. Another misquote. I worked in Mexico for 13 years and know where the states are located.
DeleteThe new normal isn't pretty! But in 3 years the new normal will be much worse! and on and on it will go until ????? y'all know where it's heading!
ReplyDeleteMike Vigil isn't always reliable. I don't blame him for cashing in on his experience with the DEA, but some of his comments defy reality.
ReplyDelete@Detroit I agree with u. His Intel is old and outdated, like when Vicente zambada turned witness, gave the U S old Intel.
DeleteOutdated! He is sought after by the international on a continual basis. A renowned world expert. Jealousy will take you nowhere
DeleteIs this the same DEA agent that said DEA didn’t have any connections with CDS but vicentillo said they did? I read it on vicentillo book so 🤷🏻♂️
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't take a genius to know the Mexican cartels operate in ALL the USA states
ReplyDelete"If they were to designate the cartels as terrorist groups, they would have to act against arms manufacturers in the United States, because they are supporting the cartels, 70 percent of the cartels' weapons come from the United States," added Mike Vigil.
ReplyDeleteThis is very obvious misinformation, to claim that firearms manufacturers are directly "supporting" the cartels, and simply not true at all. The manufacturers are in business to sell lawful regulated (itar restricted) products in a lawful and regulated manner to eligible us citizens,. Those who obtain and transport/smuggle the products to the cartels are the ones breaking laws. A sad attempt at blame game politics but not surprising.
