There's A Recent Low influx of US Citizens at Tamaulipas Border

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

In the last few days, there has been a 60 percent drop in the arrival of the U.S. citizens at the Tamaulipas border.

What happened with the four U.S. citizens in the last few days in Matamoros has had a strong impact on medical tourism and could also jeopardize the influx of the U.S. citizens during the Easter holiday period, according to Cristian Eduardo Pérez Cosío.

The legal director of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce (Fecanaco), proposed that in addition to the arrival of military elements, a strategy should be implemented to recover the image that is being lost, taking into account that security issues affect the economy.

"Medical tourism is strong in Matamoros, Nuevo Progreso (Rio Bravo), Reynosa, even Nuevo Laredo, because many Americans come for cosmetic surgery and plastic surgeons; it is an economic potential from which pharmacies also live, because medicines are cheaper than in the United States", he stated.

Beyond what happened in Matamoros on March 3, these are issues that must be reversed, because after the events in which two Americans and a civilian lost their lives due to a stray bullet, a 60 percent drop in the influx of American citizens was noticed.

Perez Cosio cited that last weekend, night spots such as restaurants that previously looked full were now empty.

He indicated that the security strategy must be in accordance with the conditions of the northern border municipalities, considering that even with the unfortunate events of last Friday, the tourists who come to receive medical attention will not stop.

Plastic and aesthetic surgeons have a lot of work to do, as it is a strong industry that is affected by events of this nature.

He said that in spite of the incidents, the Americans will continue to come because they save up to 75 percent in the cost of such surgeries at the border, compared to what they pay in the U.S. clinics.

Let's all remember that if you've never been through Matamoros. Clowns.

    1. @sol. The genie is out of the bottle. No way to reverse this unless Mexico gets serious about cleaning up its act. No sane person goes to Mexico on holiday or any other reason unless they never read the news, or they feel lucky. So when will Amlo fix this? Has he announced any time frame for returning Mexico to being a normal country? I know he thinks he can do this without foreign help. Asking for a friend.

    3. Hey Sol, I'm surprised you haven't posted any follow ups on the 4 U.S kidnapped victims. Apparently they all had narcotic prior ranging from sales to distribution. If the media shifts the spotlight on that it makes you question a few things. 1 was their motive really for medical reasons, 2. Was it really a random attack, 3. Why is the media not exposing this fact? Are they manipulating information to push a narrative?

    4. 10:13 It’s America. Every other person from the hood has a past drug charge.

More than half the population in the USA has drug priors. That's a given. Nothing to see there.

    6. 10:13 I know countless people with droog charges who have gone to Mexico without trying to traffic or get involved in business. Makes sense you’d bring drug dealers for protection actually, people who have been in the game before.

    8. The fact that they have drug related priors, one of them for manufacturing changes the dynamics of the story. Are we really being told the full story? It makes you wonder if the real motive for them being there is really what they said they were there for. From the get go, something was not adding up and the way the media is pushing the narrative this hard for some criminals makes you wonder. Just makes me wonder. I know I'm not the only one, because as soon as the story broke there was a lot of people speculating and even more so after they realized they were black.

    9. No drugs were found on them on that day that drew international attention. But yeah let's look at the past just when it's convenient for us to do so. 😄

    10. Sol, One thing I'm fully aware of is that people will filter the facts according to what they want to believe, myself included. If you want the U.S to send soldiers and drop bombs on cartel members, you'll filter every source out there that tells you in black and white why the U.S can not do it. If you believe AMLO is the next anti-christ or the second coming of Jesus, you will find reasons why you believe what you want to believe. If you marched and looted for George Floyd because that cop put his knee on his kneck or that his death may have been caused by the fentanyl he had taken before his arrest then you will do everything in your power to ignore those facts. All I'm saying is, them 3 African American ex-cons with drug related priors and that female with drug related priors could have been there for some of the reasons speculated by BB readers on this very website prior to the story of them being out there for cosmetic surgery... were they out there for drug related activities and figured why not kill two birds with one stone and getchu that tummy tuck too? We don't know, but it's a possibility. Just because they are not Latino does not exclude them from negotiating with cartels. I knew these white dudes that would smuggle drugs and people from Mexico in their christian missionary van, talking bout, " we're out here doing the lords work, donating to the orphanages... thank you, may the lord watch over you officer." And never raised an eyebrow. What's the going rate for a key or two in Matamoros? Don't be surprised if it's the same amount as some cosmetic surgery, and don't be surprised if the cartels are using licensed doctors to launder the money... "how do we pay for the product?" "Transfer the funds to Doctor Linares and write it down as cosmetic surgery"

"Wondering" about what does or doesn't add up is not evidence.

    12. 210 the evidence or in this case testimony we have is from 2 ex convicts. Now as ex cons with drug related priors, are you so naive to believe they're gonna tell you the truth, the whole truth regardless if it incriminates them? Maybe, but I won't exclude the facts. Three ex cons with drug sale and drug manufacturing priors and no relation to one another went down to México with 1 female ex con just for her to get cosmetic surgery. It's something I'd probe more into cause again, it's a little suspicious.

    13. These guys were low level drug dealers dealing in nickle and dime amounts. That suggests that they were pretty low on the food chain and pretty far from the importers.
Nothing in the public domain suggests anything nefarious about their trip.
The lady went there for either a tummy tuck or butt lift. She has a lot of tummy to tuck and butt to lift. I'm sure this would have cost a lot more in the U.S., especially if they had to rent a crane to lift that butt.
They were a long way from home and naive as to the true dangers of Mexico. What happened to them was incredibly unfortunate, but perhaps the media attention has saved the lives of other Americans because the U.S. media certainly doesn't report on what is going on in Mexico.

    14. Okay Detroit, the same can be said about the 3 fisherman from Sinaloa who were swept adrift and found 9 months later off the coast of Malaysia. After all, as Johnny Cochran once said, "if the glove don't fit, you must aquit."

  2. I used to go deep into Mexico for travel multiple times a year. Beautiful people and country, spoiled by the 10% who wish to prey upon others. Cartels back then focused on the drug trade, but now they take whenever the opportunity presents itself. I don't go anymore. You have no rights there.

  3. I am a gringo and have crossed the border for 20+ years. Mainly Nuevo Laredo area. Reading the news it pointless because they don’t report on facts. They report on bias and what they want their audience to perceive as facts.

Yes Mexico needs to do a better job of reigning in the cartels, however if anyone with a sane mind believes the 4 individuals that crossed in to Matamoros for “medical needs” well then you’re the individuals that believe everything you see at face value and depends solely on news as your source of information

    7. 9:09 here is a gringo with common sense, not Not many here in this blog.

Gringos- send the navy seals. Send the drones, nuke Mexico, arrest the Mexican presidents and bla bla bla 😂

Common sense is, there won't be any stop to the cartels that produce BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to the American and Mexican people on top.

    8. You’re not as smart a gringo as you fancy yourself. You sound like the folks who claim they go to the hood in US cities and claim “nothing happens.” Nothing ever happens until it happens. And ignoring the STRUCTURAL issues of crime, corruption, impunity and overall dynamics here means you’re sadly misinformed. And yes, I actually live in TAMPS and I’m a gringo.

    9. Another Gringo here. Over the last 22 years I have crossed the border more than 100 times. Most recently in Reynosa, a week ago. No drugs, no guns, nothing illegal that would draw the attention of the police or cartels. Going back again late April. No worries here.

    1. Stop spreading mis-information. U.S citizens no longer travel to Mexico because it's like the Ukraine right now. The cartels are riding around in 20 car convoys slaughtering, kidnapping and raping innocent tourist and 35k innocent mexicans that had nothing to do with drug trafficking all while AMLO sits on his ass and reads anti-US poems to his sheeple.

I am glad, you can see through the smoke and screens .
Yes ALMO along with his advisors and speech writer are trying to paint a picture of lies.
Recently at his daily conferences held Monday thru Friday, he said Fentanyl does not come from Mexico.

  8. Tijuana will continue to thrive and dominate in the affordable discount medical tourism industry even more now thanks to this unfortunate episode in Tamaulipas! Nothing would of happened to that poor lady if she would of gone to Tijuana or Guadalajara or even Culiacan for her surgery! Tamaulipas is a cesspool straight up shit hole! Americans please stay away from there! The rest of México ain’t like that dump! Just like the rest of the USA isn’t like Texas!
