On June 19th, 2023, eight Mexican Military personnel were injured by a makeshift mine in Apatzingán, Michoacan. The soldiers were conducting patrols in La Bateas community when their vehicle entered a clandestine minefield and a buried mine detonated; they were later transported to the medical facilities of the 43rd Military Zone where four were labeled as “out of danger,” but, due to the severe extent of their injuries, three soldiers were transported by helicopter to a military hospital in Irapuato, Guanajuato.

In response, state and federal security forces launched a land and aerial security operation to provide security for the injured soldiers and to patrol the area, as the region suffers from a territorial dispute between various criminal organizations. Footage circulated on social media of the damaged military vehicle with the unit number designation 0830312 being transported away from the scene.

However, this detonation and its resulting injuries are not a completely isolated incident: on January 31st, 2022, as a military convoy patrolled the area between Tepalcatepec and Aguililla, Michoacan, an armored vehicle known as a “Sandcat” drove over and activated a landmine, injuring four military personnel and totaling the vehicle. Days after, a similar landmine killed a local and injured his son in El Aguaje of Aguililla, Michoacan. Later, on February 12th, 2022, members of the Emergency Response Group and of the Paratroopers Rifle Brigade disabled 250 mines that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel placed on various roads in the Tierra Caliente region of Michoacan.

  5. Land mines.
Looks like the Cartel is improvising, using the idea from Iraq. Who is selling it to them?

    1. Selling what? Fertilizer and empty metal tanks like butane canisters. No need to use explosives. We will se more IED and DIY mortars.

    2. IED history initially began by IRA/Sinn Fein in Northern Ireland troubles in 70's or 80's(I'm too lazy to Google). Became mainstream during Iraq. Little tidbit of random useless garbled wisdom.🐙MS.h
