"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat
Dulce Mijares, the beauty queen from the municipality of Guadalupe, located 64 kilometers east of the city, suffered an armed attack last weekend, when she was traveling with her parents to this city.
Agents of the State Investigation Agency (AEI) informed that the Mijares family was attacked by members of a criminal group who chased them for several minutes, when they were driving a white Hyundai Sonata with Chihuahua license plates EBM555B, on Saturday night.
Dulce and her father were hospitalized, and their health is in critical condition, according to reports issued by family members through social networks.
The representative of the border municipality recently participated in the state beauty contest held in Camargo, which was attended by mayors from several municipalities, including Fausto González, municipal president of Guadalupe, who so far has not issued an official position on the violence caused by criminal groups that remain in the border area between Mexico and the United States.
The AEI report states that in the attack, three people, two women and a man, were shot and injured while traveling on the Juarez-El Porvenir highway near Guadalupe.
The family was attacked by members of a criminal group who chased them for several minutes while they were driving a white Hyundai Sonata with Chihuahua license plates EBM555B, informed an investigating agent from the night shift.
The armed aggression provoked the mobilization of municipal police, elements of the National Guard (GN) of the Mexican Army, and the AEI, who searched unsuccessfully for the aggresors.
The three injured persons were taken to two hospitals on this border, under the protection of state police.
Later, elements of the various police forces found an abandoned pickup truck on the road leading from the Panamerican Highway to the Juarez-El Porvenir highway.
The red Chevrolet Avalanche truck had bullet holes, and dozens of bullet casings were also found, apparently from Saturday night, when there was an armed confrontation between members of two criminal groups.
