Police Officer Killed, Archeological Artifacts Recovered, Former Mayor Gunned down - Criminal Violence in Mexico Roundup August 23, 2023

Chiapas, Reforma - Two State Police officers were kidnapped by a group of 12 men. They were restrained and beaten. They were later found alive by a National Guard Patrol, reported Tabasco Hoy.

Guanajuato, San Francisco del Rincón - Two Municipal Transit Police were injured after they were fired upon by men on a motorbike. Guanajuato is the most violent state for police in Mexico, with 53 killed so far this year.

Guerrero, Chilpancingo - A decomposing body was found inside a plastic bag on the side of the road, reported Quadratin.


Veracruz, Tecolutla - A watermelon farmer was found dead in his field with several bullet wounds, covered by a metal sheet, reported La Silla Rota.

Querétaro, Colon - National Guard agents seized archeological artifacts at a shipping store.


Jalisco, Degollado - Guardia Nocturna reported that authorities located a clandestine fuel tap on a PEMEX pipeline

Oaxaca, Villa de Guerrero - Manuel Guzman Carrasco, a former mayor of Putla, was killed by armed men while at a mechanics shop, reported NVI Noticias.


Colima, Colima - A police officer was gunned down, making for 16 this year, reported Proceso.
