El Mayo Zambada Reappeared At A Funeral? Here's What We Know About The Sinaloa Cartel Leader

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

The deceased is Eliseo Imperial Lopez, father of "Cheyo Anthrax," considered the leader of the armed wing of the Pacific Cartel.

Sinaloa Cartel leader Ismael El Mayo Zambada Garcia made a sudden and symbolic appearance at the funeral of his wife Margarita Lopez Imperial's brother.

A photograph of a wreath with a ribbon bearing the caption "From Ismael Zambada" began circulating on social networks.

The wreath was allegedly taken to a funeral home in the municipality of Culiacán, in the state of Sinaloa, where Eliseo Imperial López, the brother of El Mayo's wife but also the father of Eliseo Imperial Castro, alias Cheyo Ántrax, considered to be the last leader of the armed wing of the Sinaloa Cartel known as Los Ántrax, was being held.

Unofficial information states that Eliseo Imperial's death was due to natural causes. The death was confirmed by Grupo H-100, who sent their condolences to the Imperial family through an obituary.

"Fear music and Grupo H-100 regret the passing of Mr. Eliseo Imperial López. We extend our sincere condolences and a big hug to all his family, friends and close ones. Our sincere prayers for his eternal rest," reads an Instagram story by Jasiel Felix, lead singer of the corrido group.

Grupo H-100 is originally from Culiacán and in its musical repertoire has a corrido dedicated to Ismael Zambada Imperial, alias El Mayito Gordo, the other son of Zambada García who is imprisoned in the United States where he faces charges of conspiracy and illegal introduction of marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamines in a California court.

"I am not rich, gentlemen, nor have I sought fame, because I am only the son of Mr. Mayo Zambada. And because of El Mayito Gordo, all the people call me. I've never been one for trouble, but if there's trouble I don't get out of it because all my affairs have always been handled by me and also with my cousin Eliseo, nicknamed Cheyo," reads part of the song's lyrics.

According to media reports, Ismael Zambada Garcia's nephew was allegedly very close to his cousin Mayito Gordo. They even point out that when Ismael Zambada Imperial was arrested in November 2014, the current leader of Los Ántrax was with him, but managed to escape.

El Cheyo Anthrax, who operates only for El Mayo Zambada, remained as the leader of the armed wing after the arrest and subsequent execution of Rodrigo Arechiga Gamboa, alias El Chino Anthrax.

El Cheyo Anthrax is known to have a feud with Los Chapitos, sons of Joaquin Guzman Loera, while US authorities implicate him in drug trafficking and money laundering operations.

The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) identified him as a senior member of Los Ántrax in 2016. In addition to providing "support to or on behalf of the Sinaloa Cartel and/or its high-ranking members."

Eliseo Imperial Castro El Cheyo Antrax

"The drug trafficking and money laundering activities of Eliseo Imperial Castro and Alfonso Lira Sotelo serve to expand the Sinaloa Cartel's influence in California," said OFAC Acting Director John E. Smith in a statement.

OFAC charged Eliseo Imperial Castro with "materially assisting, supporting, providing services to, and/or acting on behalf of his uncle, Ismael Zambada Garcia, and the Sinaloa Cartel."

    6. So Mayo didn't go personally, but he made his presence with the wreath, that is what the title indicates correct? Because that subject wasn't broached in the least. Also...People that keep trying to indicate that Mayo is Cuban born or Cuban has either recently started to delve into the narco subject (and by recent I mean like barely two or three days ago) or is a complete idiot.

  3. There is a news article about CJNG dressing up as Marina and infiltrating Sinaloa . Any more info on this?

    1. That's dope. Imagine if that's true, cartels always pay military for protection Now they're gonna be paranoid. Not gonna trust their own shadows now.

      Delete
    2. Shit the Marina is CJNG, not the other way around. The Army is Los Zetas and CDS is Policia Federal.

      Delete
    3. If that’s true then it’s likely CJNG is signing their own death certificate. I’m sure the government and military will increase the heat on them.

    4. Lol that reminds me... If you don't count BLO, every cartel in MX has other cartels operating in their home states.. except for Sinaloa..

Not trying to brag or "ride" ---- just pointing out an interesting fact, that's been true for eons now...

    5. 6:53 let me guess, you are just repeating what you heard from a CDS cheerleader, well for your info, Cartel de caborca, Juarez, TJ y hasta CJNG have been doing business in Sinaloa for a long time, just remember Cartel del Milenio use to do be partners with CDS before nacho got snitched on and killed, so in CJNG theres some sinaloas working and at the same time doing business in sinaloa, remember in Sinaloa not everybody is CDS or BLO there is a lot of independent dealers, just like CDS has some Jalicienses and Michoacanos in their ranks, something so ovious that only kids cant wrap their head around cause they have not mature yet 😉

    6. 11:05 outside of mencho and Osiel all the big cartel bosses have been from Sinaloa. Sinaloa will always breed drug traffickers. It just in their culture. Shit even the main caf and cdj leaders were from Sinaloa. Whenever a foreigner thinks of drug lords or cartels in Mexico Sinaloa always comes to mind.

      Delete
    7. If they’re in Sinaloa how come they don’t take it away? The way y’all make it seem like mencho so powerful. What is he waiting for? Since y’all say they got the marina on their side. What’s the hold up? Where’s his establishment out in el triángulo? You ninjas talking just to talk and cheerlead for your home state hero Lol

    8. 11:05 sinaloa can't be powerful by themselves, they go to city of Mexico to get support from president, to jalisco for money laundering and to Durango and Sonora to get kids on crystal meth to be sicarios
Sinaloas are known to be drug dealers and were respected when there was NO competition.
Now theyvare known as cdsnitches and the competition is HEAVY, cjng took many of their plazas and grew to be their main competition.
Never in a million years would i imagine a michoacan guy would give those sinaloas so much headaches 😆 🤣

    9. 11:44 WOW thats something to really be proud about 😂

      Delete
    10. 12:30 sorry guys if i debunked your in Sinaloa only CDS works bull shit but a few more cartels put in work there, not a plaza war kinda shit(BLO does though, even if you try and spin it saying BLO are from Sinaloa well guess what MG in Jalisco is the only CDS guy but he is also from Jalisco🤷🏼‍♂️) but yea they deal and have bussines in there

      Delete
    11. @134 — Almighty anonymous commenter, may us plebeians have just one link to prove another cartel (besides BLO) is in Sinaloa?

      Delete
    12. 1:34 if CJNG did have business or allies in Sinaloa just know they already would have put like 30 videos out saying Sinaloa already has an owner and that it belongs to señor mencho so quit lying to yourself. Just because you believe this and post it alot on cds posts doesn't mean it's true 😂

      Delete
    13. 1:03 took plazas? Is that why the MZ faction is whopping them in Zacatecas and Baja California. Chiapas might get added to the list soon

      Delete
    14. 2:55 😂😂😂😂 chiapas was CDS, CJNG wasnt in there a few years ago

      Delete
    15. Im not a cartel cheerleader. F*ck them, they are all scumbags. But here is a fact: Sinaloa is the most fragmented cartel (CDG is well fragmented too). If they were all together again (BLO, Chapiza, Mayo faction and Caro Quintero organization aka Caborca Cartel) Sinaloa wouldnt loose a single plaza to other Cartels such as La Linea, CJNG, etc). CJNG, La Linea and Gulf Cartel would have to team up with each other to hold their plazas.

      Delete
    16. 3:27 that's why probably the chiapas locals prefer cds over CJNG then . Same goes in Zacatecas. Outside of Jalisco and Michoacan no one else likes the cjng

      Delete
    17. 2:55 all the plazas you mentioned CJNG had no presence, CJNG is invating them 😂

      Delete
    18. 5:22 in Zacatecas CDG F25 sold them that plaza basically they absorbed the local CDG sides in Baja California basically same caf let them entered so they could fight off cds and in chiapas they have been there for about 4 years already but getting pushed out. So basically CJNG was in Zacatecas for 2 3 years and is getting pushed out. In Tijuana they was once the dominant group with CTNG but now are probably the 3rd strongest behind cds and caf and well lets see how chiapas plays out but by the looks of it the locals prefer CDS

      Delete
    19. @11.05. You think there are loads of traffickers in Sinaloa who are working without CDS approval? Who think they can operate without Mayo's protection networks? Bullshit. There might be a lot of ''independent'' traffickers, but they buy in, so they pay CDS to protect their product. Unless you're talking about a few Desperados running small amounts who either end up in a mass grave, or end up whooping in a motel with a few grand and a hooker North of the border, there aren't any truly ''independent'' traffickers in Sinaloa.

    19. 7:32 I was in juvey boot camp when I read about his death, 7/4/1997, in the NYT. I'm not 2:20. If you listen to the corrido "Nave 727" composed by Paulino Vargas of Los Broncos de Reynosa, the first group I heard sing it was Los Cadetes de Linares de Lupe Tijerina on their album "Una página más".
It sings "chequen sus cuentas señores, los que acuñan las monedas, 25 mil millones no se ven todos los días, si Carrillo los logro, es porque lo merecía "
ESDLC had just died when that album was released late 97 most likely early 98. Even before his death the 25 billion was mentioned by DEA and the press.
The knock off version of the song, which curiously I've only heard groups from Sinaloa sing, is called "El pájaro azul".
