Emma Coronel to be released from prison, U.S. authorities confirm
Emma Coronel, wife of Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán, will be released from prison on Wednesday, following her arrest in 2021 on drug trafficking charges, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons (BOP).
Coronel, the mother of two of the Mexican drug lord's daughters, is currently serving a three-year sentence in a low-security federal institution in the Los Angeles city in the Mexican border state of California.
On its website, the BOP published a brief fact sheet referring to Coronel's release on Wednesday, September 13, although it did not provide further details.
The 34-year-old U.S.-born woman was arrested in February 2021 at Dulle International Airport in Washington on charges of distributing cocaine, heroin and other drugs.
As part of a plea deal, the wife of El Chapo, also imprisoned in the United States, admitted to acting as a courier between Guzman and other members of the Sinaloa Cartel while he was held at the Altiplano, where he entered in 2014.
Coronel's legal representatives did not immediately respond to a Reuters request about the possible release of her client.
It is unclear whether Coronel has drug trafficking charges in Mexico or other crimes.

Unfortunately, there is no information in the public domain to confirm whether she cooperated or not. We have to wait to see how all of this pans out.
When they cooperate alot of the paperwork doesn't make sense. We're only hearing about her because she already had plastic surgeries done. If not she'd disappeared in the system. 3 years minimum security, she definitely snitched. She can only walk chapito territories.

DeleteThe majority of the time people opt out for plea deals to reduce and get charges dropped without snitching it’s just your lawyer, prosecutor and judge trying to find a middle ground and if your lucky you’ll get a caring judge they would definitely look out and give you a great deal/chance. Also up to you not to fuck up during the duration of the process. Unlike going to trial in which if you loose you’ll do way more time getting the max. I’ve been in the criminal system and know how it works
