A group of armed men wearing Oaxaca state investigative officer uniforms killed a farmer after stopping his vehicle at a roadblock in the town of San Juan Lachigalla, in Ejutla de Crespo municipality, Oaxaca on Monday.

The killing occurred late afternoon on September 26 on the San Juan Lachigalla highway in Northern Oaxaca. Farmer Salvador L.L. along with his son and three farm workers were traveling home from work around 6:30 p.m. when they encountered a roadblock manned by men dressed in white shirts who identified themselves as Agencia Estatal de Investigaciones (AEI) officers. They ordered the men to exit the vehicle, and killed Salvador with a 9mm pistol.

The gunmen told the other men to run if they did not want the same to happen to them, according to NVI Noticias. The gunmen then commandeered the vehicle and fled the scene.

In a statement posted to their Twitter/X account, the state attorney generals office (FGE) stated that they are investigating the killing and "usurpation of public functions", a charge related to impersonation of government officials.

    1. I think a lot of actions by criminal groups in Mexico make no sense unless we understand the foot soldiers of organized crime are brash, psychotic, and often on drugs.
