    4. The initial kidnapping occurred in the inland empire, 5 hours south of Santa Maria. Being that they ended up in a hotel in Santa Maria im assuming they just drove as far away as possible from the crime scene. Supposedly the kidnappers purposely crashed into the victim as a ploy to get the 17 year old out of his vehicle. We still don't know if this was cartel/ drug related, but according to the news, something went down in New York between the victims father and the kidnappers for them to take these actions. We don't know if this was a random act, or if these guys are career criminals who commit these kidnappings for randsom back in home.

    3. Sol according to the news YouTube channel “Santa Maria times “ they said he caused an accident and that’s when they took him but now that your saying this makes more Sense they probably didn’t wanna mention the NY robbery so that they don’t “scare” the people and make them think a cartel is openly operating in the city

    4. It was not because of a traffic accident. Go back and read the articles.

    5. If the dad stole something, they why did they not cut up the kid?
500,000 ransom, then they lowered to 100,000.

    2. They get their money most of the time in the US, kidnapping has been a growing business in the last 10 years.

    3. @141 you're talking firmly out your ass... first, there is absolutely no data or evidence to support that kidnapping is a growing business (in the US). It's not. Next, kidnapping data is notoriously difficult to come by because it's often not reported. I'll tell you this - kidnapping for ransom is infinitely easier to pull off in other countries like Mexico than in the US.

There's no data to support your rambling, in fact, you contradict yourself. You claim it goes unreported thereby admitting it happens.

The US is a major human trafficking hub with kidnapping being rampant but it goes reported as "human trafficking" to cover law enforcement's ass that it actually happens as much as it does. Well over a 1000 kids are kidnapped within the US every year, and that's only kids. I can tell by your writing you only read the Wikipedia article. You can chech the DOJ and FBI for further information. It must be nice to live in your pink bubble of "reality".

    6. @341 you don’t know what you’re talking about starting with the fact that human trafficking is NOT “kidnapping for ransom.” They are completely two different crimes and kidnapping for ransom is NOT common in the US - underreported or not.

    7. 10:22
Sometimes it is kidnapping for ransom but it is classified as "human trafficking" incorrectly in order to diminish the fact that it actually happens.

You are not well informed. These types of kidnappings for ransom originate in Mexico and end up in the USA. Once migrants cross the border some are held for ransom and if no money is paid they're put to work as sex workers (the females). It's literally a kidnapping for ransom but since it originated in a foreign country, as migrants crossing the border, it's classified as "human trafficking".

  9. No one is the result of a kidnapping later to demand $500k if not aware who kidnapped. Dripping to $100k soon after only points to incompetence and inexperience.

  10. Solid info… Spain news site detailing kidnapping by Mexican kidnappers in Mexico.

Maybe not true? Following had me question accuracy:

The ransom was eventually reduced to $93,000 (about 500,000 euros) after the victim&#x<>;s mother said she did not have $<>,<>.

  11. @908. A kidnapper could receive their money as part of a plan to track them. LE will track the money via plant in a case or other means. Just because they receive the money doesn't necessarily mean they're going to keep it.

  12. There is zero Mexican cartels in New York , trust me I should know.
