Two People Who Were With The Kidnapped Mayoress Of Cotija Released: López Obrador

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

The Jalisco Prosecutor's Office is in charge of the investigation into the kidnapping of the mayor of Cotija, Yolanda Sánchez Figueroa.

The mayor of Cotija, Michoacán, Yolanda Sánchez Figueroa, was kidnapped along with three people in Zapopan, Jalisco, but two of them have already been released, informed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who said that they support local authorities in the investigation of these events.

The municipal president of Cotija was abducted on the afternoon of Saturday, September 23 when she was leaving a shopping mall in Zapopan. Armed men, presumably from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), took her away after intercepting her as she was traveling in a cab outside the Antares plaza.

President López Obrador assured in his morning press conference on Monday that work is being done to locate the mayoress, who had already received threats and was not accompanied by bodyguards at the time she was intercepted.

"The investigation is being carried out, today it was discussed at the meeting. Apparently she was accompanied by three people, two were released, we are working on that," he said.

He added that the Jalisco Prosecutor's Office is in charge of the investigation into the kidnapping of the mayoress, but the federal government is supporting it.

It was reported that the two people released are two women who are relatives of Yolanda Sánchez Figueroa, whose whereabouts are still unknown.

Mayoress of Cotija was threatened by the CJNG

Mayor Yolanda Sánchez Figueroa received threats from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) since April of this year demanding that she allow the incursion into Cotija of police colluding with the criminal group.

The municipal president did not give in to the cartel's pressures and after the threats she undertook various measures: she reinforced security and requested federal support for the deployment of the Army.

In response, several attacks occurred. One of them against the police headquarters in which armed men used assault rifles and explosives, leaving two policemen dead and severe damage to the premises.

  4. What's the diff between the USA & Mexico? This type of shit is an everyday occurrence with few convictions in Mexico while every cop killing in the USA results in huge manhunts. Cops are worth shit in Mexico, many times literally.

    2. 4:09 Nope. She "went" to Zapopan in the narrative of those who are perpetuating that "kidnapping". Other sources are saying she was "picked up" in Cotija.
This is the beginning of the war for the political jobs in next years elections in México.
