Heriberto Sosa Leal, El Picudo, an alleged Sinaloa Cartel operator, was arrested on Tuesday, November 21, after a confrontation and chase in the Mexicali valley.
El Picudo remained in custody at the Mexicali General Hospital due to injuries sustained from a firearm projectile.
According to information provided by authorities at the Mesa de Seguridad, El Picudo works for the Los Mayos cell headed by Juan José Ponce Félix, known as El Ruso, and is considered a lieutenant in the North Zone of the Mexicali Valley.
The Attorney General of the State of Baja California, María Elena Andrade Ramírez, indicated that El Picudo was a priority target of the security roundtable. This after the alleged criminal was arrested and released in July of this year.

In this regard, he indicated that this Tuesday Sosa Leal was involved in a confrontation, where he was wounded. Later, after a chase in the Villa Zapata community, elements of the State Investigation Agency (AEI) arrested him.
The man was taken to the Red Cross and then to the General Hospital of Mexicali, where he remains guarded by elements of the AEI, National Guard, State Citizen Security Force and Municipal Public Security Department.
The Prosecutor pointed out that El Picudo had active arrest warrants for crimes such as Forced Disappearance.
"These are crimes of complexity in the investigation and yet we managed to obtain these arrest warrants. The trailing of this individual wasn’t something that came about days ago, we had already been following him for months now," she said.
Andrade Ramirez mentioned that Heriberto Sosa Leal changed his name at different times, which complicated his arrest.
Unofficially, El Picudo is linked to the discovery of human remains in the Los Huesos ranch, in the Ladrillera neighborhood.
