36 Bus Passengers On Reynosa-Matamoros Highway Are Intercepted By Gunmen

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

During the night of December 30, a criminal cell of armed men stopped a bus on its way to the city of Matamoros and forced the 36 passengers on board to disembark.

The events, which the Tamaulipas Security Ministry described as an "incident", occurred on the Matamoros - Reynosa highway shortly after ten o'clock at night, according to official reports.

Preliminarily, it was reported that bus number 9570 of Grupo Senda left the city of Reynosa and halfway was intercepted by the group of possible hired assassins.

Authorities acknowledged that the 36 people traveling on the bus were forced to get off the bus by threats, but did not reveal whether they had been abducted or share any other details about their whereabouts.

According to the official narrative, the bus driver reported the events. Elements of the Mexican Army, the National Guard and the State Guard went to the scene and escorted the bus to the Matamoros headquarters.

  1. If the bus was escorted to Matamoros, then I think it’s safe to say they weren’t abducted. Or at least not all of them were. Unless the military, national guard, and state police were all escorting an empty bus for whatever reason.

  2. If the bus driver reported the incident, then I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the passengers weren’t abducted and were just robbed. It would be pretty stupid to abduct all 36 passengers, but not the bus driver who’s a literal witness. Were they hoping he wouldn’t talk to the police ? Why would you even risk it ? Just abduct him as well or kill him.

  6. Yeah, this article is pretty confusing. So were the passengers abducted or detained and robbed? Is everyone safe or are we blaming AMLO for 36 more unaccounted persons?

    1. It's good to blame ALMO, since he is soft on cartels, anything and everything goes in Mexico. Impunity at it's finest.

    1. I don't understand why everyone is getting upset, the numbers are falling. San Fernando in 2010 with 72; Iguala in 2014 with 43 and now 36. Amlo seems to be doing something right.

    2. 🤦🏻‍♂️ have you ever actually BEEN to SF? How is AMLO doing “something right” when heavily armed caravans of criminals parade around with impunity? Are you insane?

  8. Most cartel checkpoint stop passenger buses to check travelers for identification. If you do not have identification or have a foreign one they will investigate you and decide if you stay with them or not. I believe now they have amped up there checkpoints do to caravans of illegals.

    1. It just goes to show you how pathetic and broke that cartel is if it's having to kidnap people who are just trying to work for a living.
