The Rescue Of Joseph Constantine Buonincontri

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

An American man was found by Mexican authorities in a house with his eyes taped shut in the town of Limones, which is in a remote area in Mexico's Quintana Roo province.

The man, Joseph Constantine Buonincontri, was found in a house made of natural materials, also known as huano, in a remote part of the jungle, according to the Quintana Roo Attorney General's Office.

Buonincontri is 35 years old and is from New York.

In this undated stock photo, a sign to Limones, Quintana Roo, Mexico is shown on the side of a road.

The man was found by Mexican authorities on Feb. 4, the Quintana Roo Attorney General's Office said in a statement to ABC News.

American Joseph Constantine Buonincontri was found by Mexican authorities in a house with his eyes taped shut in the town of Limones, which is in a remote area in Mexico's Quintana Roo province.

Members of the Mexican National Guard, the Mexican Army and the Quintana Roo police all participated in the search and rescue operation, the attorney general said.

Quintana Roo is located on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, with Limones about four hours south of Cancun.

Video translation is as follow:

Soldier: How do you feel, are you ok?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: (mumbles)

Soldier: Are you ok, hungry, or thirsty?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: Could you please give me a cigarette?

Soldier: A cigarette?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: Yes. And could you unblind me?

Soldier: We’ve already called the authorities. Agents from the Public Prosecutors Office and the Attorney General's Office are going to arrive and remove that blindfold from your eyes. But are you ok? We’re soldiers from the Mexican army. We belong to the 7th Motorized Cavalry Regiment. And we’ve come here to give you aid.

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: Thank you.

Soldier: But are you ok, do you feel well?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: Yes.

Soldier: We’re going to give you a bit of water.

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: Please just give me a cigarette instead.

Soldier: Please just drink a bit of this water.

* At this moment the soldier signals with his left hand placed just below his waist for no one else to come near.

Soldier: Now, if you’ll permit me I’ll take that water container back. Are you feeling healthy? Where are you originally from?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: The United States.

Soldier: The US? Where did you live?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: New York.

Soldier: New York huh? Where do you currently live now?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: Well, my house is in Quintana Roo. And I came to the community of Limones to visit my comadre at her house.

Soldier: So, you came to visit in the community of Limones?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: Yes.

Soldier: Do you remember the day that you were kidnapped?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: No, I can’t recall the day.

Soldier: No?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: I don’t even know what day this is.

Soldier: You’re unaware of what day this is?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: Yes.

Soldier: But are you ok?

Joseph Constantine Buoninincontri: Yes…

    1. Perhaps his lady friend set him up. That would explain why she did not notify the authorities. Of course there may be other explanations for this. At any rate, he was sure jonesin´for a smoke.

    2. So he couldn't unbind his eyes and feet? His wrists were bound not his hands.

    3. Why did the soldier not unbind his hands, eyes and feet? Seems a little cruel to leave him that way.

    1. Could it be the ransom was already paid, and the kidnappers tipped where to find him.
If they found them without being tipped.
Then why no arrest of the criminals?

    1. That area has many high level cartel bosses living from Limones to Bacalar. The high level (tons and tons) of trafficking has exploded in the last ~10 years and trust me when I say that they don't kidnap random Grindos for some joke of a ransom and if they wanted him to disappear they would still be looking for a missing person. Hell, this town is right at the turn off to Mahahual and Costa Maya which is a playground for big time money launders from both the Mexican and Italian mafia. He was involved in shady shit and all things considered he was lucky.

  16. he could move his hands. Why didn't he free himself? take off the tape on legs and bite off the duct tape on his hands. Something is very off about this.

  20. Its staged to look like Mexican government is doing something instead of the usual bumbling nothing burgers. A soldier tells captive that a senior leader is coming to remove blindfold. Why not just untie him and give him water. Junior high students make better phony videos than this.

  22. Some of us actually remain calm in intense situations. He also sounds completely exhausted. Mentally or physically. Maybe both

  23. This looks so fishy, I think this mf was trying to get something and they took him for his money and his friend's and family's money. He was probably partying with those people and they thought that he has lots of money so they kidnap his ass. Be happy that they didn't kill him. Very fishy to me..

    ReplyDelete
  24. Is that his real name?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Did anyone here what happened to him

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think he was likely doing shady things because the reality of it is that if yo dont get involved in things like that the chances of something happening to you are very slim.

I live in QR (Puerto Morelos) for 6 years now and never encountered any issues or felt like there were any issues or problems with anyone. Just dont go looking for any trouble and no one bothers you. I have a feeling this guy went looking and found it.
