US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the arrests of "El Mayo" and Joaquin Guzman Lopez on July 25, 2024.
“The Justice Department has taken into custody two additional alleged leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the most violent and powerful drug trafficking organizations in the world. Ismael Zambada Garcia, or “El Mayo,” cofounder of the Cartel, and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, a son of its other cofounder, were arrested today in El Paso, Texas.
Both men are facing multiple charges in the United States for leading the Cartel’s criminal operations, including its deadly fentanyl manufacturing and trafficking networks.
“The Justice Department has taken into custody two additional alleged leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the most violent and powerful drug trafficking organizations in the world. Ismael Zambada Garcia, or “El Mayo,” cofounder of the Cartel, and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, a son of its other cofounder, were arrested today in El Paso, Texas.
Both men are facing multiple charges in the United States for leading the Cartel’s criminal operations, including its deadly fentanyl manufacturing and trafficking networks.
According to Luis Chaparro, the surrender came from a deal made by US authorities and Texas attorneys.
"Hearing from sources a Texas based group of attorneys helped break a deal between El Mayo and US authorities. The same offer was handed to the rest of Los Chapitos and Mayito Flaco at the same meeting a few weeks ago. Only El Mayo and Joaquín Guzmán agreed."

According to local news agency KTSM and Sun City Skydive, a King Air plan arrived at the small landing strip just outside of El Paso, in Santa Teresa, New Mexico where they were greeted by US authorities and taken into custody.
According to Wall Street Journal, "El Mayo" was 'tricked' into flying into the US and being taken into custody.
Joaquín Guzmán López, the son of imprisoned drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, was on the same plane and also arrested, a Homeland Security Investigations official said. "

A federal law enforcement source told Fox News Joaquin Guzman Lopez surrendered to U.S. authorities, but El Mayo was captured. Guzman Lopez cut a deal with U.S. authorities, and turned on El Mayo, the source explained.
Guzman Lopez got on a private airplane with El Mayo and instead of heading south to Mexico like El Mayo thought, the plane went north to El Paso where the two were taken into custody.

El Paso county courthouse has had snippers and closed streets around it when there are high rank cartel members on court because of its proximity with Juarez.

You will see that they will seal the indictment and then in a few months they will plea deal on it. Mayo would not sacrifice himself for his kids, when they all got arrested?
