Regarding Immigration, US Borders are Expanding

 "Socalj" for Borderland Beat

The first U.S.-funded flight repatriating migrants who crossed into Panama irregularly occurred Tuesday. The flights, which carried both deported and voluntarily repatriated migrants, are part of an accord signed with the U.S. government last month.

Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino took office in early July promising to crack down on migration and "close" the dangerous Darien Gap connecting Panama and Colombia.

The jungle region saw a record number of migrants cross last year, more than half a million, with the majority headed for the United States.

A group of 29 Colombians with criminal records were the first to be returned on Tuesday.

Under an agreement jointly signed by the Panamanian foreign minister and US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the US has committed to helping Panama with $6 million for equipment, transportation and logistics to "remove foreign nationals who do not have a legal basis to remain in Panama."

Immigration is a hot topic ahead of November's presidential election in the US and the stream of migrants arriving at its border with Mexico is being closely monitored.

President Mulino, who has promised to reduce the number of migrants transiting through Panama, described their situation as "sad".

"Most of them are from Venezuela," he explained. "They're human beings... there are families torn apart, children of five or six years of age whose parents have died during the crossing. We don't even know who they are or what their names are."

Brazil Visa Restrictions

Brazil will begin imposing restrictions on the entry of some foreigners from Asia who use the country as a launching point to migrate to the United States and Canada, the justice ministry’s press office said Wednesday. Starting next week, travelers without visas will either have to continue their journey by plane or return to their country of origin, the ministry said.

The move, which starts on Monday, will affect migrants from Asian countries who require visas to remain in Brazil. It does not apply to people from Asian countries currently exempt from visas to Brazil. US citizens and many European nationals also do not require visas for Brazil.

A Federal Police investigation has shown these migrants often buy flights with layovers in Sao Paulo’s international airport, en route to other destinations, but stay in Brazil as a place from where they then begin their journey north.

More than 70% of requests for refuge at the airport come from people with either Indian, Nepalese or Vietnamese nationalities, one of the documents says. The African nations of Somalia, Cameroon, Ghana and Ethiopia are among the remaining 30% of refuge seekers.

Cheap labor that drives down inflation in food production and restaurants, construction and general labor jobs while population increase stops deflation in teachers jobs, health care and hospitals, home prices and rents and many other parts of the economy. Bottom line is America needs immigrants to pay taxes to support the fast retiring boomers and huge fiscal deficits or it will collapse!

    2. The issue is that most of the people coming here are then trashing our parks and streets, driving like crazy, making our neighborhoods noisier, etc. I say this as a Mexicano por nacimiento. Sadly our people aren’t the best at taking care of things or being concerned for others at a public level.

    3. I think it drives up inflation because these illegals charged me $30 for a cup of fruit with chamoy. Some of the chumps outside of of Home Depot charge $350 a day for shitty work.

With new recruits for the military woefully inadequate America needs military recruits from the immigrant population to defend the collapsing empire! Remember during the Iraq war immigrants, illegal or otherwise, were fast-tracked to citizenship if they enlisted!

    7. Agreed 100%! Every country needs immigration to replace the older population in the workplace ,to pay taxes and to provide soldiers for the military.
The problem is when you take away the hard earned social security benefits of older Americans that have worked their entire lives and paid taxes to support illegal migrants that have never worked or paid taxes in the USA before.
Did you know that in Jan 1st of 2024 California passed a law providing FREE healthcare to illegal migrants including " sex change operations". That is a $120,000.00 medical charge.

    12. Dude loitering outside Home Depot ain't getting paid $350 per day.
Nobody's gonna pay big bucks for a fruit cup.
The streets in USA are NOT paved with gold.
This is bullshit propaganda that wetback smugglers dish out to their gullible clients.
Life in the US is a hustle, just like everywhere else in the world.
In Hollywood flicks and TV shows, everybody is dressed in Armani and drinking champagne and playing polo.
      That's not the reality.

  4. Big Nuts you got a point the issue is that it to much people to keep a track on and large part are getting asylum so it just causes more stress on everything. Back then someone with out papers would show up get field work pay the debt bring the rest of the family work in the fields and keep moving up slowly. Now days it's come figure out all the ways to get the government to support them. Which fucks up the reputation of the ones who really want to come and work and be part of this Beautiful country.

    1. To apply for asylum is not the same as getting asylum. To qualify for asylum one must have a hearing with an immigration judge and a government attorney who will challenge their claims seeking asylum. The judge will render a decision based on the merits of the claim. Because of the backlog of cases it can takes several years to have a final hearing. I'm not sure if asylum seekers can apply for a work permit while their case goes through the process. I'd say yes.

  5. UK and France has immigration problem. Muslim and Africans looking for handouts. The problem with immigrants is that they want to leave their countries yet bring with them the same qay of lifw that ruined their countries . For example in Canada ,Indians are taking dumps at the beach.. muslim want to bring Sharia law to their new countriea .Venezuelans just want ebt, free housing and healthcare. Theae groups are not running from political persecution they just want a handout.

  7. I gotta friend from Guerrero who's the suavest in service as a waiter and decorates & mixes the best glasses of drinks for all customers. He even has pity on the ones who speak English such as myself but don't go the extra length he does & finds time to make mine when I get in the weeds! Le digo ha Juan ha un nivel de paraieso que puedes llegar si supieras English mas. Pero el guey ja anda en'el Cielo aqui. It's the rest of you in Latin America that should learn English. We got enough criminal element here already. We need immediate assimilators who are proper and can communicate across with the 2 main languages spoken here. Spanish and English.

There's actually two de facto "main" languages in the US: English and Spanish. Albeit, the latter is de facto regionally.
