Mazatlan, Sin.- The secretary of the Elota City Hall, Omar Ayala, confirmed the presence of armed civilians in the community of Potrerillos del Norote in Elota, during a phone call with Los Noticieristas, Ayala also reported two private homes that received bullet impacts on their facades.
According to the official, there were reports of gunshots fired at the houses, although no persons were injured or deprived of their liberty during the events that occurred on the night of Monday, September 9.
Elements of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat, together with members of the Sedena, went to the place this Tuesday morning to verify what happened, and the arrival of the State Attorney General's Office in the Southern Zone is expected to follow up and verify the facts.
So far, no more criminal incidents have been reported in communities near Elota, however, preventive actions and dissuasive patrols are being maintained with the support of the Sedena, the National Guard and Municipal Public Security.
Regarding security measures, the Secretary informed that classes in schools in the area continue to be suspended to protect children from possible violence, meanwhile, City Hall personnel are working with guards to attend to any eventuality, while businesses in the region are operating normally.

According to sources the houses that were attacked by Mayo Flaco gunmen on Monday night in Elota, Sinaloa, are owned by the Garcia Corrales family who are associated with the Los Chapos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. Leobardo Garcia Corrales leads his family's criminal business and is a long-time associate of the Sinaloa Cartel that worked with Mayo Zambada and Chapo Guzman but has been working closer with Los Chapitos for some time now. The brother of Leobardo Garcia Corrales "Don Leoba", with the name Martin Garcia Corrales was executed with signs of trauma on his body and was highly likely killed by Mayo Flaco hitmen on August 17, 2024. The body of Martin was found alongside three others next to the Elota highway.

Leobardo has not been in Potrerillo for more than a year and why would so many be mobilized out of the mountains of the Durango and Sinaloa Sierras to come and avenge this rampage to reclaim the area violated? Ever since his son's kidnapping, when Leobardo surrendered his territory, weapons and people for Jonathan's release and the Chapitos retaliated and recaptured the region, they did not return it to Leo. They left Leo just enough to feed the families. The Corrales family have occupied the middle ground since they come from the times Mayo and Chapo led with Azul and the old school values. Chicago and the twins changed that. After El Mayo was betrayed and handed over in El Paso, Leo turned down the offer to join the Chapitos and be given back all the region he operated growing mota for Chapo. Mayo was always a phone call away for Leo right up until he was lured into that meeting in Culiacan. It was Leo that pushed back against the Chapitos when their father was arrested and the kids refused to give Licenciado his due. Leo was the one who warned Chapo not to attend the event that led to his capture when he last stayed in the very compound depicted above in Potrerillo.
