Fentanyl Lab Captured in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora

By "El Huaso" for Borderland Beat

Authorities located and captured a fentanyl production lab complete with pill press machines and lab chemicals inside a home in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora yesterday. The seizure matches reporting that synthetic drug production has moved north from Sinaloa to border states like Baja California and Sonora.

In a press release, the Attorney General's Office of Sonora reported that the raid was carried out by SEMAR and Sonora State Investigative Police (AMIC) and occured in the Altar neighborhood of San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, a border city across from Yuma, Arizona. The lab appeared to have been inside a home.

Authorities found a 9mm and a .45 pistol, a small amount of ammunition, a bag of M-30 fentanyl pills, various pieces of production machinery, and a 20 liter container of Methanol.

Methanol is not a precursor chemical used for the production of fentanyl, but is rather used as a solvent for calibration and quality control in laboratories. This is notable as it displays the professionalism of the production operation.

The brand name 'QUIASA' is visible on the methanol container. QUIASA is a chemical supply company which appears to be based out of Mexicali, a city in neighboring Baja California.

Over the last six years, synthetic drug production was primarily centered in Sinaloa state, accounting for between 70-90% of all drug labs. However in early 2023, as a response to government pressure, the Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel banned fentanyl production in the city of Culiacan. Dozens of lab cooks who disobeyed the order were hunted down and killed.

InSight Crime reported that this measure caused production to move north to border states like Baja California and Sonora.

    1. Former mayor yesca sold the plaza to both chapizas and mayiza/rusos which caused constant beef, violence. New mayor that just came in, Ivan Sandoval made arrangements exclusively with Mayiza/rusos which caused a “limpia”, chapiza cops(at least 2 female cops included, one of them outside her gym) being taken out, dealers, trappers, tiradores, etc and eventually the municipales got ran off cuz they were killing them and got sent in buses to Hermosillo(Sonora state capital) for “capitaciones” training and mando único took over law enforcement there, the estatales, state police, and a lot of them stayed stay at hotel san angel on Obregon across the street from pez gallo restaurant. Now the municipales are returning to their duties again. The rusos also months ago took out chapiza in el golfo and its all rusos their now. Ivan Duarte pina is the ruso supposedly responsible for all the violence in San Luis right now! Last month in September alone, 50 homicides! Marines, army and guarda nacional are all over San Luis right now! Está caliente! Alot of the past violence may have been due also to chapiza cutting off Los salazares!

    2. When the former mayor was in office he was living across the border in San Luis az/yuma and running the city San Luis Mexico from USA for his own safety and his kids wouldn’t leave the city hall it was protected by a lot of cops. The mayors kids sold the plaza to both groups and double dipped! The former mayor was probably given political asylum!

    1. 2:20 I see what you mean.
They captured the house and put big handcuffs around the windows, so the 🏠 house would not run away.
The funny thing is..not a single criminal was arrested...the house itself was making the illegal drugs.

It's perfectly possible to capture something that is not moving per the English common usage definition. Look it up. You think it's impossible because you've only encountered the word "captured" in a specific context, moving objects, and from that assume, erroneously, that the title of the article is wrong. Your experience with the English language is limited, shame. The title of the article is fine.
