One of the bodyguards of Guadalupe Tapia, Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada's operator, was shot and killed in a fight inside the Culiacan prison, where four other men were wounded.

He is Luis Octavio Rocha, 45 years old, originally from the Tacuichamona syndicate, the same place where “Lupe Tapia” was arrested in February 2023, during an operation by the armed forces.

The confrontation was reported early this morning, leaving one dead and four wounded; one was left in the medical attention area of the prison and the other three needed to be transferred to a hospital, where at least one is reported to be in serious condition.

The Secretariat of Public Security confirmed that several weapons, municipalities, drugs, communication radios and some 146 thousand pesos in cash were seized, but the search continues.

One of “Lupe Tapia's” BODYGUARD

Luis Octavio was one of the five bodyguards arrested for “Lupe Tapia,” from whom six long arms, a Barret rifle, four short arms, and portions of cocaine and fentanyl were seized, authorities reported at the time.

Guadalupe Tapia was considered one of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada's main operators and synthetic drug traffickers, who was accused of trafficking and laundering money for the Sinaloa Cartel.

However, the five people arrested at his home, located more than 100 kilometers south of the city, were detained in the Culiacán prison, but nothing had been heard from them since then.

In the specific case of Luis Octavio, the authorities accused him of carrying a firearm for the exclusive use of the armed forces, cartridges, magazines, and crimes against health and with the aggravating circumstance of gang membership.

  1. Death penalty mexican style. They may have corrupt judges letting criminals walk free but you cant say there is no justice in mexico.

  4. Lupe Tapia is old school, there new players in the game that have more labs than what he did at his all time greatest. Check out google maps of tacuichimona Sinaloa especially the Roundabout , there's a huge house 2 story wirh a flat Roof. That house belong to the new player in town. Retired cop from USA. Now that Boss has tons of labs up and down el cerro de tiburon. If u scroll south of the big house u will see a modest house with roof villa tiles. That house belongs to Lupe Tapia small house compare to the new boss in Town.

  5. It looks like the Chapitos faction inside prison got to him. Are the prisons in Sinaloa separating Chapos and Mayos? I know that in Juarez they separate CDS and La Linea. Same in Tamps with CDN and Golfo. Maybe the security guards made a mistake. Either way good riddance scumbag. Nuff Said!!!

  6. Mayo snitched out lupe tapia . Lupe is fighting extradition. If hes smart he would ask for speedy extradition and cooperate with the FBI/DEA against mayo and save himself a life sentence and a chance to join witsec.

    1. @1.27. Yeah, I thought the same thing. Typo from Excelsior, or maybe it's like those Faustian pacts or deals with the devil- they get told they'll live longer working for Zambada, but find out too late that it only applies to newspaper reports they read about from BB on a smuggled phone in prison the day they get shot in the head.
