Culiacán, Sin.- General Gerardo Mérida Sánchez is leaving the Public Security Secretariat in Sinaloa, federal government sources confirmed to Los Noticieristas. In his place will be Brigadier General Oscar Rentería Schazarino, a graduate of the General Staff.

The change takes place on the third visit to Culiacán by the Secretary of Citizen Security and Protection of the Federal Government, Omar García Harfuch, prior to the visit of the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to Sinaloa tomorrow Sunday, after more than 100 days of violent events in the state following the kidnapping and delivery of drug trafficker Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada to the US government and the murder last Wednesday of a Harfuch agent in Villas del Río, Culiacán.

It was in September 2023 when Mérida Sánchez arrived in Sinaloa, at the SSPE, after the departure of Lieutenant Colonel Cristóbal Castañeda Camarillo.

Mérida Sánchez was no longer present at today's press conference of the Spokesperson's Office, in his place was Leoncio Pedro García Alatorre, Undersecretary of Public Security, Prevention and Social Reintegration of the agency.

It will be today, Saturday, December 21 at 1:00 p.m. when Oscar Rentería Schazarino is sworn in as commander.

Oscar Rentería Schazarino comes from the 43rd military zone in Apatzingán, Michoacán, a ‘fentanil’ zone, where he was appointed commander only in September 2023. Previously, he was in charge of the First Military Zone of Mexico City.

Oscar Rentería Schazarino.

  2. In so many words, "bring in the national guard!"... Rocha Moya is so full of shit. He takes credit when things are going good, and puts the blame on others when things have gone sideways.
