Possible RPG Being Smuggled into Sonora, Mexico Seized at Nogales Border Crossing

"Socalj" for Borderland Beat

UPDATE: Based on online analysis of the photos, it appears to be an inert style RPG replica used for training purposes.

Michael W. Humphries, Director of the Nogales Customs Department, said CBP officers working on outbound operations seized a rocket grenade launcher and two rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) that were hidden in a car attempting to cross the border into Mexico on December 28, 2024.

CBP officers discovered the weapon hidden inside the cowl of a car. The launcher appears to be an RPG-7.

The seizure of the military type weapon at the Nogales border crossing is in addition to the confiscation of 1.5 million fentanyl pills detected at the same border crossing between December 4 and 22, according to information provided by the CBP.

In October, an officer involved shooting at the border crossing resulted in the wounded suspect being taken to the hospital. The CBP said the altercation occurred in the Southbound lanes of the DeConcini Port of Entry.

It has not yet been reported who the driver of the car was nor which criminal organization in Mexico was behind the arms trafficking attempt.

  1. Doesn’t make sense at all Eastern European made weapon coming from the US??? Law rocket I would say ok, but some1 had to smuggle that RPG into the US just to attempt to smuggle into Mexico. Makes almost no sense. I think it’s easier. To get a rpg shipped to a Mexican port over Long Beach or Los Angeles.

  2. This needs to be fully investigated. Gun shops don't sell this stuff. This came from a military weapons warehouse which means that Mexican cartels now have bribed some of our military people guarding this. They have infiltrated our military. If this isn't reason enough to send in our special forces units to Mexico and blast these turds then what is? We need to come together and support Trump for this decision! Nuff Said!!!

    4. Nuffy the US military doesn't stock Russian made RPGs.
What we know is, that they were snuggled from a foreign country into USA, then taken into Mexico.

    5. @9:59 You are one of many people who’s comments allow for other readers to dislike El Trump… your comment has no weight to it.

Fact: Bribing officials (even Americans) IS and always will be a way for any criminal organization to enhance their ability to influence and achieve their goals; Money talks bs walks.

The US will never invade MX, there are too many interests at hand to just do that.

Your point of an RPG being smuggled into MX is highly dangerous, I get that, but it doesn’t merit the idea that an invasion or attack from US into Mexican soil should happen. It’s just not going to.

  8. This stinks to high heaven. There's no booster motors on the rocket like it's a prop. And smuggling a eastern block weapon that south American governments use from the US?

  9. This is not an actual RPG, it's an RPG trainer which uses a 7.62x39 round, so it's basically a bolt action firearm which is designed to train to use an actual RPG.
