"Socalj" for Borderland Beat

Customs and Border Protection officer Manuel Perez, Jr. was arrested in El Paso, Texas on criminal charges related to his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to smuggle undocumented noncitizens for financial gain and alleged drug trafficking activity.

Perez Jr. is charged with one count of conspiracy to bring aliens to the United States for financial gain, three counts of bringing aliens to the United States for financial gain, and one count of conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

According to court documents, between on or about Dec. 21, 2023 and Feb. 5, 2025, Manuel Perez Jr., 32, of El Paso, allegedly smuggled and attempted to smuggle undocumented noncitizens into the United States for commercial advantage and private financial gain. The indictment alleges that, in multiple instances, Perez Jr. admitted a vehicle driven by an undocumented non citizen at the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry in El Paso as part of human smuggling operations.

Perez Jr. allegedly conspired to possess a substance containing at least 5 kilograms of cocaine from on or about Nov. 1, 2019 through and including Feb. 5, 2025, to distribute throughout Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina and elsewhere.

  4. Off topic, but Trump keeps handing China, India, and Russia victories and not a damn single word about curving drug addiction in the US.

    1. Curbing drug addiction? Be realistic, people don't really care about it

    2. Big Ego Trump doesn’t care about the addicts , he’s more worried about doing what Elon tells him to do.

  5. Since DHS became majority Hispanic, corruption investigations and arrests have skyrocketed.

Remember, 5-7 years ago, reading an article where a Texas FBI field office admitted that open investigations into public corruption involving DHS agents were at all time highs.

Only in our naive, tolerant society can we believe that allowing people with close ties and family in Mexico, born to illegal alien parents or legal immigrants into our border protection agencies was a wise thing.

    1. Big money always makes agents that make less than 60k a year fold, especially if they live in a neighborhood where they want to make neighbors believe he makes big money. He sees neighbors with new cars , wife pressures him into buying a new car and that’s where smugglers come in lol. And that’s a true story.

  9. This is way better than a narco getting caught imo. If you’re gonna be straight, stay that way, if you’re gonna be crooked, take the consequences as they come. But, don’t try to play good when you’re a shit bag.

  11. If cartels were smart , they would join teams and not send drugs to the USA . The economy in the USA would change . Drugs addicts would flee the U.S. and go to Mexico . Believe it or not, drugs bring money to a lot of politicians.

  13. This arrest totally makes sense. On many occasions when I am in line crossing back to the U.S with Buffy after a night out partying I see other vehicles in line also crossing back and the people do not look American at all. I hear them speak Spanish only. They also look very shady. Now we know that they crossed illegally. Trump needs to create a special agency to do investigations at random of these agents. Nuff Said!!!
